Question about Canon ZR85 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Display problem I have notice when I look in the LCD, the view finder and also on playback, it appears as if the upper portion of the screen is darker (darker shade). There is a distinctive line from top to bottom. This issue is also seen on playback on the TV. Any idea?

The problem i m having with my camcorder is when i want to record film screen goes blank but i can watch my previous recorded videos

Look in the view finder when recording instead of the screen. if you see the image there then the unit is probably set to look through there. Many of the new units dont' have a full view finder to lens item they actually have a small lcd screen inside the view finder. Check your options for recording.

Also if the view finder is tilted you need to close that before usign the lcd.

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD

monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the

viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,

and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully

Everything is working properly but cannot see anything from lcd or view finder

Hello. First there *any* display at all such as a number code in the upper right hand corner of the lcd? It will appear as "C:00:00" or "E:00:00", minus the quotation marks. If there is a "C" in front of the numbers, the problem is fixable by you--an "E" means that the problem has to be addressed by a tech. Next, to reset ALL functions back to factory defaults, open the LCD display on the side and locate the small reset button just to the left of the MENU button. Use a pen or pencil (the end of a paper clip works beautifully) and press the button momentarily. Don't use a lot of force to do it--not needed. If this doesn't bring up any display, then there is an internal circuit problem.
Can you see an image if you play back a tape? If so, then the problem concerns the CCD chip or associated circuitry. The ccd chip provides all the video information to the eyepiece and lcd screen in *record* mode. In *playback* mode, the camera acts just like a small VCR. Any video is being pulled from magnetic tape.
Is the camera still under any type of warranty? A CCD chip problem is a major repair and will be relatively costly. Do not repair the camera through a store! Find a reputable repair facility and ship it directly--the cost will be FAR less.(Retail stores take the actual repair quote, half it, and add the half to the quote *you* see.)---Hope I helped you!---Rick

MY Hvx 200 Is totally Black when I turn it on. the display and playback of my old footage works fine but the picture is totally black. any Ideas When I switch the camera on, the view finder is totally...

You should go into the menu, camera settings and set the evf to on. EVF stands for electronic view finder. This can be set to be on when the lcd is open or closed. CAreful, if the evf is set to on and you point the viewfinder towards the sun, it will burn white marks into the viewfinder and ruin it.

Black LCD and out of focus

My LCD screen has also malfunctioned - some-one else has also posted a similar problem and has been told its to do with a carbon cable connecting the LCD screen to the camera that needs replacing.
Not sure about the viewfinder problem - is there a control to adjust the focus, or is that what you mean by the viewfinder lever?

Color balance of video output

an estimate of repair is pointless it would cost less just to get a new camera.

Distorted picture when looking through view finder or lcd screen

the video playback is sampled off the video out and independently processed sorta like a TV signal to project on the lcd screen.
horizontal lines means you lost sync circuit and needs troubleshooting. Hopefully maybe a bad connection with a ribbon cable for the ICs and components are hard to change and jammed tight. I would order a video board.
