Drain out all the oil. You will have to have a air compressor or find some one who does. With a rag to help cover the fill hole pressure the oil chamber and push the oil valve open and try to blow out the clog.

My Stihl MS 231 is not feeding oil to the chain how do I locate the problem and repair.


The chain and bar oil should feed from the reservoir to a small hole in the bar that feeds the oil to the bottom of the chain. If that little hole gets dirt in it, the oil won't feed to the chain. To clear the problem, remove the bar, remove the chain from the bar, and clear the hole in the bar and track for the chain in the bar. I've done this while out in the woods by just using a stiff dry piece of grass to push the dirt out. Once clear, replace the chain, teeth facing the correct way, and the replace the bar, and tighten.

Why does my electramac leaks oil


The chain oil feed is a gravity feed and will continue to feed when you put the saw down. Empty the chain oil resoivour when the machine is being stored. or store it in a driptray.

No chain oil feed


not sure if the 455 rancher is the exact same as my rancher but when the oil feed on my saw seems slow i remove the chain and bar and clean the chain grove. pay special attention to the end that is near the motor there are a couple of places that allow the oil to flow from the saw body to the chain groove and then subsequently to the chain

How to change Oil Pump


3.3L Engine

The lubrication system is a full flow filtration system pressure feed type. Oil from the oil pan is pumped by an internal gear type oil pump directly coupled to the crankshaft. Its pressure is regulated by a relief valve located in the timing chain case cover. The oil is pumped through an oil filter and feeds a main oil gallery. This oil gallery feeds oil under pressure to the main and rod bearings and the camshaft bearings. Passages in the cylinder block feed oil to the hydraulic lifters and rocker shaft brackets which feeds the rocker arm pivots.
It is necessary to remove the oil pan, oil pump pick-up tube and timing Chain Case Cover (CCC) to service the oil pump rotors. The oil pump pressure relief valve can be serviced by removing the oil pan and oil pickup tube.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and drain the cooling system.
  2. Remove the radiator assembly.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4. Drain the engine oil. Remove the oil filter.
  5. Disconnect the sway bar and place it to the rear of the vehicle to gain access to the oil pan.
  6. Remove the transmission support brackets and inspection cover.
  7. Remove the oil pan and the oil pump pick-up tube.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Remove the accessory drive belts and tensioner pulley bracket.
  10. Remove the power steering pump and set aside. Remove the air compressor mounting bolts and set compressor aside. Remove the compressor mounting bracket. It is not necessary to disconnect the refrigerant lines or evacuate the refrigerant from the air conditioning system.
  11. Using an appropriate puller, remove the crankshaft pulley.
  12. Remove the tensioner pulley bracket.
  13. Remove the camshaft sensor from the chain case cover.
  14. Remove the timing chain case cover mounting bolts and the cover from the front of the engine.
  15. Clean the gasket material from the mating surfaces of the cover and the block.
  16. Remove the oil pump cover retaining screws from the timing cover. Lift off the oil pump cover.
  17. Remove the pump rotors. Wash all parts in solvent and inspect carefully for damage or wear.

To install:
  1. Clean all parts well. Assemble the oil pump with new parts as required. Install the inner rotor with chamfer facing the cast iron oil pump cover.
  2. Install the pump cover and tighten the fasteners to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  3. Prime the oil pump prior to installation by filling the rotor cavity with clean engine oil.
  4. Remove the crankshaft oil seal from the front cover.
  5. Install a new cover gasket and O-ring onto the cover.
  6. Rotate the crankshaft so the oil pump drive flats are vertical. Position the oil pump inner rotor so the mating flats are in the same position as the crankshaft drive flats.
  7. Install the front cover making sure the pump is correctly engaged on the crankshaft, or severe damage may result.
  8. Install the chain case cover screws and snug the two bottom screws and the top center screw. Ensure the cover is seated to the block then tighten all screws to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  9. Install the oil seal and the crankshaft damper.
  10. Install the tensioner pulley bracket and the cam sensor.
  11. Install the air conditioning compressor to the mounting bracket.
  12. Install the accessory drive belt.
  13. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Tighten the oil pan drain plug and install a new oil filter.
  14. Install the oil pump pick-up tube and oil pan. Install the transaxle inspection cover, if removed.
  15. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil to the proper level. Install a new oil filter.
  16. Install radiator assembly. Check condition of radiator hoses. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
  17. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Run engine and check for leaks. Verify correct oil pressure with a gauge.

There are several things you can do. First, are you running standard bar oil in very low temperatures? If so, switch to winter formula or motor oil. Next, take the bar off and see if the hole that feeds the oil to the bar is obstructed. Other possibilities are sawdust getting in the reservoir while filling it and blocking off the tube, or it not being adjusted to feed enough oil. There is usually a screw on the bottom of the saw near the bar to adjust how fast the oil flows to the bar. When it's got enough oil, you should be able to spray a mist of oil onto a piece of wood while revving the saw.

How to change oil pump in 4.7


Here you go:

1. Remove the oil pan and pick-up tube.

2. Remove the timing chain cover.

3. Remove timing chain and tensioners.

4. Remove the four (4) bolts, timing chain tensioner and oil pump.

5. Position the oil pump on the crankshaft and install two (2) mounting bolts.

6. Position the primary timing chain tensioner and install the two (2) remaining bolts.

7. Tighten the pump and tensioner retaining bolts to 21 ft lbs in the sequence shown in attached photo.

8. Install the secondary timing chain tensioners, chains, cover, pick-up tube, and oil pan with new gasket.

Poulon Pro 16-inch 38cc no longer auto feeds chain oil.


Try using carb cleaner or WD40. I hope that you removed the oil cap and oil before you tried... hope this helps, rick

No oil getting through to chain on use


Hi

The oil feed depends on the rpm of the engine.More rpm results more oil.Check the oil line,the oil filter(inside the oil tank),the gear worm and the oiler:Clean the oil way.
