If your D drive has OS installed in it, and is located in a separate hard disk, then you can set this through the bios settings and have your system boot up with that drive first.

Should you need further assistance, please let me know.

I can answer you question presuming you have IDE drives ... but ...

where is your operating system? Do you know how to change this from old C to new C?????

An IDE drive can be identified by a wide gray ribbon cable. They come in 40 conductor and 80 conductor versions.

If you have the 80, your computer uses a "cable select" method to choose C and D. Remove both, the one that was D goes on the end of the cable and will become C. The one that was C goes between C and the mother board. On the back of your drives, you should already have shorted "Cable Select"

If you have a 40 conductor cable, you will have to change the shorting pins. Instructions should be on the top of the drive (diagrans to show what pins to short) If you have an extra shorting device when you are done, leave it on a single pin in case you need it later.

I hope this helps you ... and remember, you still need an operating system.

I guess you could (stress COULD) go into the BIOS and make D the the boot device ... but im not real excited about this. There are a hundred things that could mess this up, starting with the default paths that all software come with.

Let me know how you make out ...

Find the driver for this

Hi there. As I checked the toshiba & newegg website, I can confirm that the portable hard drive is not available anymore.

Okay, back to the driver and compatibility issues, the driver is located on the hard drive itself. From rom what I know the hard drive come with NTFS driver for Mac and PC. So I think you can swap the drive and use it on another computer.

Check the jumper settings on the new drive drive,it should be set to MASTER otherwise it will not boot. Also check your BIOS settings to insure that the computer is seeing the drive.

Put a older dvd drive in newer x box will not read games

You can't just swap DVD drives.

For starters you need a DVD drive of the same model. In other words if you have a LiteOn drive you need a LiteOn drive.

Even with the same model, you still need to swap the PCB board (circuit board).

Basically you open up your old DVD drive and take the circuit board off the bottom, then open your new DVD drive and swap the circuit boards.

It's not as hard you might think.

If you don't have the correct model, here is a great site to buy the one you need: http://parts.consolerepaiguy.com - they run around $30 there.

I repair them so I am 100% sure that this is the problem.

Server XSeries 220

Yes, that is the total amount of hard drive space.
This server was built for speed not for storage.

The xSeries 220 server supports four SCSI hard disk drives. The server does not support IDE hard disk drives. Some models support hot-swap hard disk drives and other models support only non-hot-swap hard disk
drives.
Your server supports four 1-inch (26 mm) slim, 3.5-inch SCSI hard disk drives in the hard disk drive bays. You can install four non-hot-swap hard
disk drives in the models that have the standard non-hot-swap drive cage. You can install three hot-swap hard disk drives and one on-hot-swap hard disk drive in the models that come with the hot-swap drive cage. Both the non-hot-swap and hot-swap drive cages hold a maximum of three hard disk drives.

The calculation at that time was 4 drives with 36.7GB storage.
Even if you find the drives somewhere, they will be very pricy.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-FRV26 series laptop that has just started shutting itself down and restarting after windows has been up for only a minute or two. I have taken the unit apart & cleaned everything...

The main drive (C) being too full is an indicator that's your problem. Windows reserves space on your drive called a 'swap' file. It effectively takes hard drive space and uses it in lieu of RAM if you don't have enough available RAM to run programs.

If the computer doesn't have enough hard drive space to create the swap file then it won't boot up, as it will interpret the lack of available space as a failure to install the file and then try to reboot.

Luckily it doesn't install one when you're in safe mode. Try going into safe mode and restoring some of your hard driver space, as well as performing a cleanup and defragmentation of your hard drive, and chances are it will boot up.

As an alternative you might think about getting an external hard drive and using that for any new programs/music/videos/etc.

Does the hard drive interchange with other Averatecs?

Swapping hard drives only works if the hard drive is swapped into an identical computer with the same device configurations, CPU and RAM etc.
The best way to copy or recover data from a working hard drive is to insert the hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. You should see this drive as an external hard drive and you can then copy or backup the data onto the computers hard drive or USB memory stick etc.
