Question about TruTech PLV16320 Television

1 Answer

Turns off, then back on -- when image on screen is mostly white

My wife noticed that when ads come on TV where the product is shown with a mostly white background (YouTube the Mirapex ad to see what I mean) we lose the picture for a few seconds.  It's almost like the TV turns off, then back on.  The little "YUV1 - 1080I" writing even comes up on the screen when the picture returns.
At first we thought it was DISH Network's stream (sometimes we lose the picture when the sky's cloudy) but when it started doing it on clear days, we began to suspect the television.  Our model number is TruTech PLV16320.
We tried changing the brightness settings to the default "Soft" mode thinking it might have something to do with the intensity of the light, but it continues to happen, regardless.

Okay, I think I figured it out by myself.  There are two inputs for the YUV settings; YUV1 and YUV2.  The cords for the YUV2 actually plug in on the side of the computer rather than under the back panel (like the YUV1 does).  Anyway, I just switched the RGB cords from the YUV1 inputs to the YUV2 inputs and voila -- no more blank screens.

I guess the YUV1 input is damaged or something.

Blurry, purple bar across middle of plasma tv screen

Plasma screens are extremely susceptible to getting broken from any impacts to the face of the screen. What you are describing sound very much like distorted or dead pixels. It may not be a fixable issue, you may have to replace the entire unit or live with the purple bar. The reason you don't notice it as much when the screen is dark is because purple is on the darker end of the spectrum, and will be most visible in contrast to lighter ad brighter colors.

The color static, if we are talking about the same thing, is usually a digital signal interference. Check cables, and digital converter if used.

My sony KP-65WS500 turns on to blue screen then black with only sound, then shuts off? They just replaced are cable box a few days ago. We unhooked everything and tried to play a dvd....same thing happens?...

It seems that you have an issue with your Video Board, but you say that when the screen turns black, it shuts off. The lamp is not going to be the issue here, since it only produces a white light, regarding the image cutting off, it could be the ballast, but before this, you should've notice a dimmer image. For what most probably the power supply might be having a glitch. Definitely I recommend to contact a Tech so they can analyze the symptoms on the TV and diagnose the issue.

Sony Trinitron KV-19TS20 Screen displays purple static or awful image.

This unit needs a tuner. A new one from Sony will run over $70, so I doubt that it is worth it. It is possible that poor ground connections could cause something like this, but the symptoms seem a bit too severe. I think it is time to invest in a newer set.

Image retention

most manufactures say not to have a still image on the screen for more than 15% of your viewing time. to fix this you will have to replace the optical assy. i did come across a sony projection where the burn in was actually on the screens themselves. the only thing you can try is to put an all white video pattern on your tv for at least 48 hrs.
