Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool Duet model GHW9100LW1 purchased in Nov 2003 and the tub just began a serious knock during the high speed spin cycle. I checked the shocks, springs to ensure they were connected and they were. Could the shocks be bad? Could the drum bearing be bad? I have no water leaks. I have 4 boys in sports and being without a washer is bad news. Can anyone assist? Thanks, J Rancher

Hello with the limited information you have supplied this sounds like it is going to be the bearing, this is not something I would suggest a DIY fix since you have to replace the rear half of the drum with this model. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Good Luck! Mike

Whirlpool Duet Washer GHW9100LW1 symptoms of knocking noise during spin cycle. Efforts so far: checked shocks manually and observed during spin cycle and no excessive movement. Drum drive pulley:...

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Always worth while adjusting the 'balance'!
It is necessary to ensure absolutely that the machine has all 4 feet very firmly on the floor, and I mean firmly ;-0)

Doesn't matter whether it is empty or not but switch it off then-
very firmly push one front corner diagonally into the centre of the machine and see if the machine moves or rocks AT ALL, even the slightest. If it does you will need the open-ended spanner which came with the (new) machine........which of course went missing a long time ago?!! An adjustable spanner will suffice.
Adjust the foot under that corner downwards until it is very firmly- almost pushing- against the floor but not so far that the corner lifts up!
If this corner did not rock do the same to the other.
Once you cannot rock the machine the slightest little bit, screw the locking nuts up tight to the underside of the machine so that they will not move. Ideally the rear feet should also be locked.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

GHW9100LW1 outer front tub replacement. Is this a DIY project?

The first question I have is why to you want to replace the front tub? I had a problem with the metal tub knocking and gouging the front tub. When I took it apart, I found a broken bracket on the metal drum that caused it to spin off center.
If you want to replace the front tub, It is hard to get to, but it can be done. The front tub is held in place by two large springs at the top and 4 shock absorbers at the bottom. The shocks just turn 90 degrees and they can be disconnected.
Please be aware that there are three heave weights in the washer to make it run smooth during the spin cycle. Therefore, the tub assembly is heavy. There are also several wiring harnesses that have to be disconnected to get the tub out.
Once you get the tub out it is fairly easy to get the front off. There are about 20 clips that hold the front to the back tub.
It is a two man job since it is so heavy.
