the dryer does not have a thermocouple to the best of my knowledge, it has a hot surface ignitor. if that helps.

Does this unit have a thermocouple? If so, it sounds like it's bad.

With the limited information you gave I will assume this is a gas dryer that the flame starts for a minute or so and then shuts off. This problem is going to be your safety valve coils...basically they get old and over time of heating then cooling develop a short when they heat up...It may appear the gas lights to start but then goes out until the safety valve coils cool back down. Here is a picture of the coils burner will light, then go back out. - 57d5263.jpgThis The coils are mounted to the gas safety valve, This should solve your problem. Hope this helps, Please feel free to comment again if you have any further questions or concerns. Good Luck! Mike

Then your problem will be the light sensor mounted at the side of the burn tube.

The child lock engaged when a circuit breaker triped. I tried pushing the Rinse Only pad as per the manual. But, the dishwasher remains locked (light on) and won't run.

Hi Gayle, thank you for allowing me to assist you!

When the Child Lock light is on, the control is locked and no cycles can be selected or started. To de-select the Control Lock, press and hold the heat dry key or press down on the lock icon for approximately twenty seconds. If issue persists, try resetting the dishwasher by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. It is important to wait approximately ten minutes and then turn the unit on. Select a cycle and your dishwasher should resume normal operations. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if the unit's status has changed successfully. Thank you.

I would guess that the fan off setting on your limit is set a little to high. If you have the manual you can see what it says about changing the running time for the fan after the burner has shut off look on the control board and you should see two switches, one to set the time for burners to fire before main blower starts and one to set time for fan to run after burners shut off. To help with the problem you are describing set fan run time up so fan wii run longer. Hope this helps. Thaks.

AO Smith Burner Issues

This system uses an electrical test to make sure that the burner is lit. The flame sensor will either be broken or will be covered in deposits (clean with an emery cloth).

The flame sensor is usually a small metal rod that would be in the direct line of fire of the burner with 1 wire attached.

CAUTION:

The ignitors can be very fragile and are expensive. They are very brittle, do not touch it.

Burner lights 5-10 seconds shuts down. Good air flow. Gas smell at times out vent.

The burner will shut off for various reasons.

First, there is a sensor right at the burner flame. If the sensor does not indicate flame the gas is shut off to avoid filling your house with gas. It is usually a short metal rod. Oftentimes cleaning it will get it working again. Or the signal from the sensor isn't getting back to the controller, so check for loose connections.

This page explains it well.

There are some other sensors that will shut the heat down. A temp sensor where the hot air leaves the dryer drum. This is to keep from overheating the clothes and lighting them on fire. If this sensor is bad, or the wiring to it is not getting that signal back to the controller, the dryer will shut the burner down. Although 10-15 seconds is pretty short, this is a possibility. Try different heat settings to see if you get the same result. If it only happens on one heat setting you most likely have a bad temp sensor.

http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/dryer/gdryer/check/thermostat.php

Another possibility is that the gas valve (solenoid) is getting near the end of its life and can't stay open long. This is not likely, but still possible since the burner does light.

http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/dryer/gdryer/check/gascoil.php

Next possibility is that the gas line is partially plugged. When the burner fires the gas pressure drops rapidly. When the burner goes out the gas sneaking past the obstruction raises the pressure back up.

Final possibility is a bad controller.

I have had the gas off for two years. I got the pilot light to work but when I turn the thermostat up to get some heat it got the heater going about three times in over twenty-five tries over a couple

you need to clean the burner assembly. Over time dust and settled inside the unit and it is possibly restricting the flow of gas through the burners. This is a dangerous situation. get it cleaned before you try again.
