Sock fell down lint vent and daughter turned on dryer

I have an Amana dryer- I am not sure which one is the model # NED5240TQ0 or MU4949561 or ELE-2406026. A sock fell down the lint vent and my daughter turned it on and it made a noise so she shut the door. She then started it again and it now makes a whinning noise. Am I able to get the sock out on my own?

Turn off you power to the dryer and then,
You could run a coat hanger straightened out with a hook bent on the end of it into the lint vent at try to hook the sock.
But probably you will have to remove the back to follow the lint vent.
You may try to remove the vent hose and run the straightened coat hanger in there to try and remove the sock.
Hope this helps

I'm sorry to hear that a sock fell into your lint screen chute and I would like to assist you. Be sure to unplug the dryer prior to servicing it! Do not run the dryer until you are able to remove the sock! There are two ways to do this.

I have amana distinctions dryer thats 10 years old it runs so hot its hard to take the cloths out when done

Hi dionwheels62

Check and clean if necessary your vent hose.
If you vent hose "seems" to be clean then, try running the dryer with the vent hose off and see if the dryer is not running hot anymore.
If you are running too hot you are not moving enough air thru the system.
It could be that the fan blade is plugged up.
The problem could be a large lint ball build up in the center of the fan or a sock, thin pants,a pen, etc. that has gotten into the fan by falling down the hole where the lint screen is normally inserted.
You have to find the air restriction to solve the problem.
It also can be a loose or worn out blower wheel/fan.

Takes extra time to dry the clothes.

You may need to clean out your lint trap. Not just the part that you pull out. I'm talking about the entire tunnel. Even though we empty the lint trap regularly there's a lot that gets left behind and over time can become a fire hazard. Your arms and hands cannot reach everywhere in there. For this you can attach an old sock or rag to a coat hanger that has been opened up. Go down in there a couple of times with it. You'll be surprised at how much stuff comes out. To further help this problem you can also pull dryer out and check that the vent hose in back is clear and free of debris. Cleaning the trap screen (the part you pull out to empty the lint) with HOT water occasionally will also clear residue that has built up from using dryer sheets. Over time that residue will make those tiny screen holes smaller & smaller & smaller. All of this can affect your dryer's performance.

I hope this info was helpful to you. Good luck!

TRYING TO REMOVE FRONT Drum won't turn swallowed sock thru lint trap

The sock is binding in the blower wheel which in turn stops the motor.
Unplug the dryer and turn off the gas supply. Look down at the very bottom of the front panel to find and remove the 2/3 screws across the bottom. Pull the bottom of the front panel out then down to release the clips holding it to the top cover. This will give to access to the other parts to retrieve your sock.

Model 87577800 sock went thru the lint vent

The model number you have listed has the dryer vent on top of the dryer. Small items commonly fall down into the vent chute on these dryers. Articles can easily be retrieved by following these steps:

1. UNPLUG the dryer. Dangerous voltage is still present inside a dryer even when it is turned off.

2. Remove the lint screen and remove the two screws that connect the vent chute to the top panel.

3. Turn the dryer around so you can access the rear, and remove the exhaust vent hose.

4. Locate and loosen all the screws from the perimeter of the dryer back panel.

5. Remove the back panel of the dryer.

The air blower assembly and dryer vent chute are located on the left hand side (as viewed from the rear of the dryer). Remove the screws that hold the vent chute in place and you will be able to access anything that has fallen into it.

NOTE: Anything left in the vent can eventually get caught in the blower fan. So, it is important to retrieve anything caught in this area to prevent damage to the fan and to ensure the dryer ventilates properly.

If you have any questions about these procedures, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

A sock fell in the vent of my whirlpool dryer

If you mean the lint trap, try this: Unplug the dryer. With a dryer brush (~$10.00 @ Lowe's/similar), bend to approximate the curvature of your cavity and try to retrieve. If this doesn't work, slide/scoot the dryer out and remove the venting duct. Carry outside and dump. If no sock there, look into the dryer exhaust (where the duct connects). Use the brush again to retrieve said sock (and generally clean as you go, as it never hurts). Also look at your vent where your dryer exhaust passes through the wall, clean as you go..... This should get you back up and running.

Sounds like the screen/sock combo got the tub in a bind and the drum belt broke.

If you want to pursue replacing the belt, let me know.

A sock fell into the lint resevoir; how do I remove it?

If your dryer is the model you have this listed under (lint filter on the top panel), then retrieving something stuck in the vent is pretty simple. Just follow these steps:

1. Unplug the dryer and remove the back panel. The dryer exhaust vent is located on the left hand side (as viewed from the rear).

2. Remove the screws that hold the vent in place and remove. NOTE: Make sure you remove the two screws located on the top panel as well. The entire exhaust vent will come out.

If this is not how your dryer is configured, please post back with your correct model number. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
