Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

2 Answers

I have a 2000 Dometic Roof Air conditioner model # 59516.603 Can you give me the eletrical specs as I want to purchase a generator that will power it when dry camping. Honda has 2000 watt genset that puts out 30 amp power at about 16 amps. Is that sufficient? Thanks Pat

Thankyou for your quick response. My RV is stored many miles away, so it will be difficult to look-up that info on the nameplate. I did look for the nameplate the last time I was there but couldn't find it. Is it located on the roof or can I get at it from inside the RV? I was hoping that you could pull up the specs and tell me what amperage that model of air conditioner draws according to the factory specs. Cedar Creek RV did not give me any paperwork with the purchase of the RV.

    Thanks, Pat

30 amp power at 16 amps? Is this correct? If the generator produces 2000 watts compare that to the nameplate data on the A/C -- multiply the rated volts times the rated amps -- if that's 1800 watts or less, I'd say, yes the generator is sufficient.

Pat,

12.3 amps @115 volts says the spec -- this is 1400+ watts. A 2000 watt generator should handle it nicely.

I have a duotherm penguin 13,500 btu ac. when i turn it on, the compressor kicks on but the fan doesn't. 1 thing is when i turn it on instead of kicking up from 6 amps on the rv, it kicks up the amerage to around 30. not sure what the problem may be. could it be the fan or the controller? it's a non ducted unit.

Why would a Dometic 13500 rv rooftop A/C runs fine when plugged in to normal power but when hooked up to a 4000 w gen.runs for a while then kicks breaker have tried on 2 different generators any ideas

Are both the test breakers the same size (15A or 20A, etc)? Perhaps the breaker in the RV has a lower amp rating then the other one you are testing it on? If that's the case your test doesn't really tell you anything, they both need to be the same size to know where the problem may be.

I HAVE DOMETIC DUO-THERM PENGUIN ROOF AIR CONDITIONING ON RV. THE UNIT WILL RUN WHEN PLUGGED INTO ELECTRICITY BUT WHEN GENERATOR POWERED THE AC UNIT KILLS THE GENERATOR ENGINE. WHAT COULD IT BE?

What size & type generator? On start up the AC unit can draw as much as 17-18 amps in some cases, and if your generator is not designed for a quick draw like that it will die.

Then I have even after ac is running, I have had tv on and even used microwave. But as far as running you ac on your rv , not problem. I do it all the time. Mine is ulta quite, and 8 to ten hours run time on about a gallon of fuel. Mike

Power to ac but will not turn on

Please give more details if possible. Roof air, with mechanical controls at ceiling, or thermostat on wall? Ducted system in ceiling or blows right out of ceiling assembly? Can you get a model number off base of upper (roof) unit, it should be visible when you remove filter from ceiling?

I would like to know if my Honda 2kva generator will run my air con dometic roof top B3000

I dont think so as this will be too much for the generator which has only 2 KVA as capacity.
Though the rated power is 2 KVA it will be safe to use it only upto about 1.6KVA.
The AC will require a lot of current on start up than in running and so it might no be good to have it strained.

I'm purchasing a generator to power the Dometic Duo Therm Brisk Air A/C unit in my camper. How many watts does it draw?

You will need at least a 5000 watt generator to run that and a few lights etc... for the camper.
