Question about Clarke Floor Sander Floor Sander Orbital 3-Disc #07164A

1 Answer

It seems the sanding table has frozen to the eccentric on my orbital clarke floor sander. Any recommendation on how to get apart. I need to replace the 4 upper bolts with rubber washers. I have tried different lubes. I have also tried a large puller and almost broke the sanding table. Am I missing something.

Go to Americansanders.com and under the orbital sander click on it and the manual is 38 pages long, the parts explosion is towards the back of the manual but it should show you how to disassemble this tool so you can get to the bolts that you need. Let me know if you need more help

I would recomment trying a local rental yard. they usually have the paper and machines for rent. If not let me know and I will do some more research with Clarke, give me your general area with zip code and I will try and find a local source.

Clarke plate sander vs drum for a floor that only needs

drum sander leaves chatter marks you must plate these out. belt sander is the best way to go, however it will take longer to just plate than to drum and plate. for light sanding i would start with a 60 grit on the drum, then 80, then 100. plate with 100 screen till chatter free, then final with 150 screen. this is if you intend to go to raw wood.

Clarke FM1700 buffer-sander, problems with using it

what is the condition of the felt pad on the driver?? The sander should not be that hard, usually you need to lift up or slightly bear down to get the machine to move left or right. Are there any exposed nails in the area you are sanding and check the grit for the sanding conditions

Orbital sander doesnt orbit!

Never start the Sander without first placing it against the surface to be sanded. In free air the Sander will not osolate.

Porter Cable Random Orbital Sander rotates but does not "orbit"

Just solved my problem with Porter Cable 333 orbital sander which just groaned. I thought the worst. I carefully took it apart on the garage floor and immediately suspected it needed lubrication as the motor turned hard. I used my flexible long plastic tube lubrication and put some on the bottom bearing shaft the best I could. I worked it around and around. I began to feel it turning easier. I applied more oil and kept moving and it became completely free. I put a drop on the top bearing even though it was loose. I put it all back together and it works like new. Lesson: do not look for the worst when a tool quits. Suspect the culprit to be lack of lubrication!!!

If the drum has the bar clamp with the 3 screws make sure the bar is set so the screws are flush when tightened down. If you reverse the bar clamp the screws will stick up a fraction and cause this grooving in your floor.

Makita random orbit 5". The pad flew apart. Is it replaceable ?

Usually there are 3 screws holding the plate to the eccentric assembly. The pad is formed to a metal plate and is sold as an assembly. You can go to Makitausa.com with the model number and get a replacement pad.
