this is the second coil in the unit and it has begain to leak like the first one. i had the first one replaced prior to the warranty expiring and now the new one is not even 2 years old and it is leaking. now that the warranty is gone i am stuck with a very expensive bill to replace it again. there has to be a problem with the coils that are being made dont you think.

leaking refrigerant? If the coil was replaced their should be no reason why it would leak.

Most likely couse is the indoor fan stops working
the elements get to hot they should be a safty for each element some snap to open the circuit
or they have things that look like gray resters
that may be open but you can not tell witch an ohm meter to check if they are good

I have an aruf036-00a-1a and have been told the evaporator coil is leaking. The unit is approximately 7 years old. Do I need to buy the whole box with blower and all or can I just purchase the evaporator...

The evaporator coil can be purchased separately and is the most common part to leak on an a/c system. The system must be evacuated of refrigerant and the old coil cut out and the new installed. Leak check performed and vacuum pulled on the system before recharging with refrigerant.

I have a 7 yr old coil model number CK3XAA04202-1AAA I now need to replace the outside condenser which is 20 yrs old. How do I find out what ton is the condenser all markings are gone?

You could look at the compressor to get the model number off the compressor which can be traced back to how many BTU's this unit was capable of producing. Also you may have to change that coil that was replaced 7 years ago. R-22 is now a refrigerant of the past. Of course you can still buy the jugs of R-22 but manufacturers cannot make the units using R-22. You are now going to go with a R-410a unit which runs at significantly higher pressures. That indoor coil may not be rated to handle that kind of pressure. Do not let any contractor try to tell you different unless they can show proof that the coil has a R-410a rating from the manufacturer. It may cost more but it is nice to have a matched system.

I am a service manager of a richmond va hvac firm and we tell are employess that if a unit is over 15 yrs old and needs over 500 dollors worth of repair to recomennd replacement the reason the leak repair is so much is because the unit has to have all the refrigerant pulled out and a torch is needed to weld the piping back together in some cases if the leak is in the coil heating it can cause other leaks you also have to add driers to the system and then the environmental fees and rules that the epa makes us follow make prices even worse if you do fix it you probally wont even get a warranty on the repair. I would replace the system and also if cost of repairs are a concern ask the company about a 10 yr part and labor warranty

Hi,my name is PK I have 5 tons Rheem air handling 10 year old. it is vertical type. How to fix the leak at evapolator coil. it leaked at the bottom right side. Can I use epoxy to seal this leak.Or replace...

Epoxy wont hold you need a new coil. about 8 to 12 hundred depending on your location. If it is 10 years old I would suggest you change the air handler. You will get a lot more efficient unit. Cost about 2200 but you will get a 10 year warranty from most manufacturers. Dont buy one unless you get a 10 year warranty. Russ

My unit is 9 years old Ruud RCGA-60AIGH24B seems

It's possible that there is gas leak causing part of the coil to freeze. The cost will depend where the leak is.

Coil leaking freon on the inside unit. Estimate is $2,100!

If indeed your evaporator (indoor) coil is leaking, the best option IS replace it (it may not even BE repairable). If you live in the USA and your furnace is getting old, a new ultra high efficient SYSTEM that qualifies for the tax credit would probably be a better option (Obama will pay 30%).

Chest Freezer not cooling

Please don't rate this solution, as anything but FixYa brings my rating down, but here's what you've got:
You have a refrigerant leak (commonly referred to a Freon, but these days usually R134A refrigerant). Some refrigerant has leaked, so you are still getting some cooling, but there is not enough refrigerant left to cool throughout the entire evaporator coils. This is NOT a repairable condition, as the coils are foamed in place and not accessable for leak repair. If this unit is under 5 years old (typical sealed system warranty) the manufacturer will most likely replace your freezer with a new one. If over 5 years, you are out of luck. Buy a replacement freezer.
