Your wireless settings may have the SSID Broadcast switched off. If this is the case, your laptop will not 'see' the wireless network. You will need to manually add the wireless connection or turn the SSID Broadcast back on.

When i hook it up i get the laptop to pick up the signal but the desktop will not go online

on the hind side of the modem how many ports do you see
my guess one port slightly seperated and named INTERNET or WAN and four more ports numbered 1,2,3,4

now connect the network cable from the modem to the WAN / INTERNET port and connect the laptopand PC to the ports1,2

now check to see if there is connection to only on Laptop or both

but if you have conection to only the laptop/PC connected to port1 then try this small trick

move the laptop to port 3 and in port 1 connect the cable from the modem which was connected to the WAN / INTERNET port

and u r set to go

Lose router signal everytime i restart my laptop

This seems to be an issue with the router itself. As the laptop is able to connect to other networks easily, the trouble seems to be with the router.

Try updating the firmware on the router. Also, change the wireless channel on the router and check if that helps. If the issue persists then I believe you will have to get the router replaced.

No comunication between router and cable modem.

this is because your PC is picking up the WRTG54G which is an internal signal booster (internal gateway) to the ROUTER ITSELF.
WRTG54G is in the middle like an interpreter.
The WRTG54G is not connect to ROUTER>
thus the laptop is not connected, like sprinkler attached to the end of a hose but the HOSE not attached to the water faucet.
turn OFF laptop. RESET WRTG54G (there is a small hole you can stick a pencil in there and hold down for 15 long seconds; UNPLUG power.
PLUB back in and hit auto config button.
let WRT54G pick up a new IP ADDRESS from router. once that is done turn on laptop and it should pick up a new signal with new IP address assigned to it by the WRTG54G.

How do I get internet on my laptop from my pc not using a cable?

what you would need to get is a wirless router. If you have high speed internet then you can plug the internet modem into the wireless router and then plug your main pc into the router via an ethernet cable and then set up your laptop to pick up the signal wirelessly. If you have dial up internet then you would still need a wireless router but it is a little more complicated. You could hook up the router to your main pc and then set up internet connection sharing so that way your laptop could pick it up wirelessly. hopefully this helps.

Hi the router has not picked up your IP address.follow this Turn off your wireless router and internet connection and your laptop aswell for 30secs .Then first turn on your internet (if seperate from the router) if not switch on the wireless router/internet hub and wait untill the lights stop flashing then switch on your laptop and that should work.
