Problems with iPaq 5550 and WiFi

Hi there,
I just need your opinion on this:
I have just got me a brand new iPaq 5550 and now I want to connect it to my
WiFi network at home. I have a SMC 2455W (22mbit) access-point witch works
fine with my SMC cardbus WiFi card. I got newest firmware (ver. 1.20) on the
access-point.

My problem is that I cannot get the new iPaq 5550 on the 802.11b wireless
network. My Windows 2003 server is running DHCP-server and should provide a
IP-address to the Ipaq 5550 as it does to my notebook. I have tried also
with a static IP on the iPaq 5550, but nothing seems to work. I have also
tried to "slow down" to 11mbit (4x mode disabled) and MAC-filtering disabled
on the access-point.

Furthermore I have tried my new iPaq 5550 on another location with a Zyxel
B-1000 access-point, and that didn't work neither.

So now I think that the WiFi part on my new iPaq 5550 is broken.. (Bluetooth
is working fine)

What do you think?

My iPaq 5555 works fine with a basic old LinkSys AP and Win2k3 server issues
the DHCP address just fine.  Seems to be a small issue with DNS and WINS
addresses getting set properly, but it always gets an IP address.

Yes I did check the WEP settings. WEP is disabled on both the AP and on the
iPaq.
What a great idea with the sniffer (didn't know of WildPackets products).
But unfortunately the AiroPeek 2.0.1 does not support my SMC 2435W WiFi
card. Damn, I should never have switched from my good old iPaq 3970 to 5550.

Well, it seems that the SMC2455W access-point is incompatible with the iPaq
5550, as I did not get it to work.
I have now tested with a LevelOne 802.11g (54mbps) router with builtin
access-point that that one works with my iPaq 5550 on WiFi.

Try first without WEP on your access-point.
I'm using my h5550 at work with a linux hostap access-point and at home
with an orinoco without any problems (even with no SSID broadcast).

Did you check the WEP settings ????

Another solution is if you have another WLAN card and a laptop. Install
the demo apllication Airopeek NX from WildPackets
(http://www.wildpackets.com/pro ducts/airopeek_nx). And look at the
packet that your PDA is sending.

You should see first authentification frame with an authtification
successful frame from the AP. Then you will have an association frame,
with a successful frame response from the AP. Then your PDA should send
its DHCP request.

WEP is disabled as I think it takes too much performance..

Can you see your AP in the Zero configuration Windows
(WLAN icon in the menu bar -> Settings -> Advanced -> Network card)
You should have a list with all the AP found by the card. Check the
configuration of yours since it always enables WEP encryption with a
shared key by default!

Yes I can see the AP in the configuration menu and actually it says
"connected", but data doesn't seem to flow through the wireless network. Fx.
I can not browse in Internet Explorer and xvIPconfig shows IP 0.0.0.0, so I
guess the iPaq does not get a IP-address from the DHCP-server.
