Try uninstalling the reinstalling your drive, if after you do this you still have this issue try using the disks in another burner to see if they can read it, typicly this problem is due to two things . Either your drivers are out of date or you are using cheapie disks

Hi , There are several causes possible :
1° Try burning at the lowesrt speed possible to avoid errors ;
2° Maybe you have purchased neww blancos and maybe they come from another manufacturer .
3° Your burning device is out of order or the firmware is outdated . Check on the manufacture's site to verify available updates .
4° Try burning with another device . Borrow a friend's external writer for instance .
5° Try ripping and burning withe another software . DVDFab HD Decrypter is one of the best and some of it's package tools are freeware .

NOT ABLE TO BURN THE C.D & D.V.D

Y510 uses the slot loading DVD, right? It's not software problem... that Matsushita DVD drive on Y510 and Y410 are faulty... they work only for a few months then always have trouble burning. I've seen many complaints on Lenovo support forum... I'm having the same problem with my Y410 too... I had to use USB to install Windows 7.

Hp 740e Burner

"Nero only recognizes the drive as 4x dvd+/-r..." ...
  • 4x for which media format (e.g., CD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, etc.)?
  • Have you had/used Nero during the entire year you've used this drive?
  • Is it ACTUALLY burning at a slower speed than before that you know of, or is it only the Nero indicator that you're going by?
If you've updated both the driver(s) and device firmware, there's nothing further that can be done in that department.

Both these sources (1) http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters?DVDnameidnew=1336&orderby=Price (2) http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-DVD-740E-R-16X-External-USB-LightScribe-DVD%B1RW-Drive_W0QQitemZ270319806919QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20081219?IMSfp=TL081219114003r29076 corroborate each other with the following speed spec's for your drive:

4x DVD-RDL
6x DVD-RW
8x DVD+RW
8x DVD+RDL
16x DVD+R
16x DVD-R
24x CD-RW (up to 32x)
40x CD-R

Are you getting at-or-near these speeds with your specific applicable disk media (i.e., DVD+RW @ 8x)? In other words: Make sure you are comparing apples-to-apples.

NERO TOOLS:
Here are a couple of very helpful and comprehensive software diagnostic tools for you to download at http://www.cdspeed2000.com/download.html. They are both FREEWARE and the same tools licensed to Nero for inclusion in their software products.

Installation: Simply extract/unzip the file to any chosen directory and run the executable (*.EXE).

1. "Nero DiscSpeed". Thoroughly tests speed and performance of your optical drives(s).
Download: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroDiscSpeed_41140.zip
- Refer to the program's Help for guidance.
- User guide also available at http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=192563

2. "Nero DriveSpeed". Adjust/control your drive's spin /up/down times and noise levels.
Download: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroDriveSpeed_300.zip

HOWEVER, since you say you have Nero, you're likely to have them installed and available already. Perform an objective test using "Nero DiscSpeed" to determine the actual burn speed of you drive.

Good luck, and please post back to let me know how things work out, or if you have any further questions.

Dvd burner issues

If you have control over the burning speed, then lower it. besides that, make sure that your laptop is not over heating since alot of lenses (cdrom, dvd, cdrw) are affected by the system heat. clean out your fans by using compressed air. You may try to reseat the drive as well if you're able to unscrew it (usually there's one screw holding it in place at the bottom of lower shell yet it's not always the case for every laptop).

With all those problems, especially #2 and #3, you won't be able to fix it. You can only replace it with a different one. Sorry your DVD player is Dead.

HP DVD 740e wont burn Dual Layers anymore!

Try re-installing the software associated with the burner, so it installs the necessary drivers and files needed for the burner to work according to your needs.

Also check the connections and cables... sometimes moving it around causes the cables to loose some contacts.

Hope this helps...

Hp 740e not reading blank dvd discs

Don't wanna sound like a Doomsayer but I think it has burned its last burn...

Try to clean it first, if it still doesn't work, then it is time for a new one.

Had a similar experience and we found out that the drive had conked out.
