I've got a new computer, Vista on an HP. It won't let me download new files like Firefox or an old edition of Adobe - says I can't update the registry or the file is corrupt. Vista - :(

    I already did all that - though your instructions didn't exactly jibe with Vista - the upshot is I turn;ed off the user account. I managed to download Firefox, now it is saying it wont extract, file is corrupt.

    I've tried this and the download from Adobe says "corrupt file" the download from Firefox is in my programs file but say corrupt file also. whats the deal?

    I'm already running "no addons" and yes, I've gone to the Firefox site and the Adobe site - they are official! Extract file says its corrupt when I try and open it using Vista Home Prem 64-bit ?

    the last part was helpful. aparently I'm not the only one having this problem - Of course I downloaded the most recent software! It just wouldn't do it.

If you have Vista you should install versions that are Vista compatible.
Older versions of Adobe or Firefox won't work on Vista standard mode, but newer versions of the software are always available. Updated versions are designed for Vista and work much better.
Often you can also install older versions of applications using XP Compatibility Mode. Follow instructions from Microsoft below:
Make older programs run in this version of Windows - Windows Vista
What is program compatibility? - Windows Vista Help
If instead you have problems installing new versions of the software, ensure that you always allow system changes during the installation. You can also try clicking right button of mouse on setup file and choosing Run as Administrator from drop-down menu, instead of double clicking the file.

Open Control Panel.
Under User Account and Family settings click on the "Add or remove user account"
Click on one of the user accounts.
Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.
Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.
Reboot.
After you download Firefox, turn it back on now for extra security.

    Try running IE without add-ons... (START/ALL PROGRAMS/Accessories/SYSTEM TOOLS/Internet Explorer (No Addons)

If you ahve teh software installed, right click the icon and select the properties option then locate the tab that has the option to run in compatibility mode. Set the software to run in Windows XP or Vista compatibility. If it is stopping the installation, right click the installation file and tell it to run in compatibility mode with a previous version of windows to install.

Try removing the printer driver that you have installed and download the driver from this URL.

When installing the printer make sure you don't plug it into your laptop until the installation software asks for it.

This should work.

CANNOT WATCH MY EPISODES ON ABC


You can try two things here:
1. Run windows update to make sure you have all the latest updates for Internet Explorer.
2. Download Mozilla Firefox from www.mozilla.com and see if that browser will play them. I had a computer once with Vista that would not play Youtube videos at all, no matter what I did, but I downloaded Firefox and it works perfectly. Vista can be strange sometimes. Good luck.

To install the driver do the following:

  1. Click the Download only button.
    Note: Make sure the HP All-in-One device is "Not" connected to the computer before running the download file.
  2. Click the Run button to begin the download.
    Note: File is compressed and may take time to expand and run.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the installation process.
  4. Click Finish.
  5. Connect the USB cable between the HP All-in-One device and the computer, then turn on the HP All-in-One device.
  6. Your product should be ready to print.

the device probably isn't compatible with Vista, or device could be formatted wrong file system. Check manufacturer's website for any updates.

You cant transfer files from your old computer with Win 95 Using windows easy transfer which is a file transfer software in vista . If you want to transfer files then you have to copy them on a cd or dvd then paste them to your new computer . It will take a lot of time . Call a computer expert and tell him that you want to transfer the file from your old computer . He will do that easily .

Copy files from old computer and transfer to new computer


Although Vista comes with an Easy File Transfer Wizard it is not compatible with Windows 98.

You will need a CD burning program such as Nero Burning Suite or Creative CD Writer or here is a link to a FREE one.
