Question about Hampton Bay 24002 Ceiling Fan

1 Answer

Hampton Bay Altura scraping sound, wobbly, light assembly spins

I had this installed (not by who I bought it from) and when turned on medium or high, it rocks. When turned on high, the light assembly will spin around while the fan "switches gears" and will then rock.

I was told by another person who tried to fix it for me that the first installer did not secure the piece above the fixture that holds it place (at the base of the down rod just above the fan) so that made it rock when in use which has damaged the bearings and cannot be fixed.

We only run the fan on low now as it creates none of these issues. Is it fixable, can the bearings be damaged or is there another issue here?

Your fan may be out of balance. check mounting of blades,& that screws are tight.put a piece of masking tape on each blade & number them.change position of blades,i.e.switch blade #1 & #3 or #2 & # 5 etc. until best balance is achieved

We bought a Hampton Bay fan model ALTURA 56 inchs. Since a year we have a noise came from the motor. Wath is the best way to fix this situation.Thank you!! Guy

If you are using a dimmer switch get rid of it and get a FAN control. Also, you can check the capacitor to see if it's going bad. Hampton Bay is just a low-end store brand for Home depot. You get what you pay for.

Fan won't reverse though it has before

It could be 1 of 3 things. 1) Receiver unit, 2) Sender (Remote), 3) Motor. For my brand new ceiling fan it turned out it was the motor.

Altura 68" fans will not operate on high speed.

I jtoo, ust bought The Altura (68" fan from home depot)
Home depot makes hampton bay through various chinese manufacturers.................
The fan ran slow on high speed, and barely ran on medium or low.
home depot gave me a number for their tech department that knew right away.....that the capacitor(s) are defective in many of the Altura fans.
They are sending the capacitors in 3 days to me no charge.
They are located under the fan ( remember the white square plastic plug you had to connect and the 2 wires for the optional light kit?.....)That plug is for the capacitors that everyone is having a problem with.
My guess is they are under rated for a fan that big and are sending better ones to those with problems.
Hope this helps.

Hampton Bay fan bearing noise

its not the bearings sounds like you need to level the mount and that scraping it the fan blade mounting plate hitting the side of the 'case' that surrounds the motor assembly ive never heard of bearings in the motor going or needing lubrication other than what factory placed in them...remember Hampton Bay is the Yugo of electric appliances too

Hampton Bay w/ remote and will not reverse.

To eliminate this problem and any humming noise, remove any wall switch that turns off and on the fan, just remove the switch from the line and use the remote to operate the fan.

High speed only 60rpm

I too just installed a 68" Altura and noticed a huge difference in fan speed. I spoke to a rep for the manufactorer and found out that the high, medium, and low rpms are 70, 45, and 25. The typical 52" fan has rpm speeds of 190, 130, and 75. The kicker is airflow. The 68" moves 7,808, 4,417, and 2,953 cfms on high, medium, and low; the 52" fans move 5,503, 4,087, and 2,509 cfms.
