I have serious color shifting occuring even after manuel color registration. Lots of clicking noises that I can't isolate. I have a new transfer unit on the way. Is there any way to run the main motor in service mode, with PCU's & developers removed so that I can isolate the clicking noises? I want to make sure I don't have any stripped gears.

No,the printer will not run without PCU's installed.The only way unfortunately on this model is to check all gears visually.Most likely bad gears either in one of the PCU's or in the fusing unit.

Found the problem. The toner waste auger within the magenta PCU broke off the spindle. Replace the PCU and repaired the broken auger.
