All the computer bios settings are stored even when the computer is off (like time and fsb)

these are stored due to the help of a cmos battery

when this battery finishes it gives the CMOS Checksum error Default loaded error

all you need to do is replace the cmos cell

it is a mercury cell (looks like a silver coin) and will be placed on your motherboard

it is very very cheap so go buy one and replace it and be happy

Hi promano67

When you "start" the computer, and the {"Screen"} displays a "Error Message."[CMOS] "error checksum!"

Settings: "Default" loaded.A "checksum error" shows that:

The ("Boot-up Settings "have been changed?"), ie. "Booting OS."

*Boot File 'missing'.

"This can 'occur' if the computer was "shut-down unexpectedly."

Force Shut-down : Power lost; due to 'low battery...'

A ("Power Surge") can cause this 'problem' also.

"What 'happens is that the [CMOS] settings are lost!".
"To fix the problem!"

Do the following:

  • "Restart / Boot the computer.

  • Next, verify if the 'error message' displays?

  • If you are still getting the message?

  • "You will have to "Remove the CMOS battery form the computer!"

  • Shut-down the computer.

  • "Unplug the computer from the {Wall Out-let}.

  • Remove the Lithium battery from the "Notebook."

  • There is a compartment (underneath) the "Notebook that 'store' the CMOS battery."

  • "You will need a {very small Phillips screwdriver}._953.jpg *Remove the CMOS battery for: [30 minutes].

  • !Important: If you have to do it again?

  • Remove the CMOS battery for a {'longer amount of time'}.

  • Replace the "CMOS battery."

  • Next, "Only plug the Power Adapter into the computer.

  • "Do not - replace the "Lithium battery!"

  • Once you have completed these 'task'.

  • "Restart the computer."

  • "Press the [F2] key, to 'enter' the CMOS / BIOS Setup!" _951.jpg

  • Next, 'reset' (all) "Values to the Default Settings."

  • "Press the [F10] key to 'Save' the changes!"

!Important: "Take a 'moment to rate the help', so I can get 'credit' for the work.

Thank you!" - paul7of9

Cmos checksum error & keyboard not function

CMOS checksum errors
Explanation: A checksum is computed as an error-detecting code, to protect the BIOS settings stored in the CMOS memory. Each time the system is booted this number is recomputed and checked against the stored value. If they do not match, an error message is generated to tell you that the CMOS memory contents may have been corrupted and therefore some settings may be wrong. BIOSes react in different ways to encountering this sort of error. Some will warn the user and then continue on with whatever settings were in the CMOS. Others will assume that the settings that were in the CMOS were corrupted and will load default values stored in the BIOS chip "for safety reasons". The error message will indicate which your system is doing.
Diagnosis: The most common cause of checksum errors in CMOS is a battery that is losing power. Viruses can also affect CMOS settings, and motherboard problems can also affect the stored values.
Recommendation: Follow the instructions in this section to address the CMOS corruption. You should make sure that all of the BIOS settings in the system are correct, by rebooting the system, going into BIOS setup and double-checking all the values (hopefully against a recent BIOS settings backup).
