Re: microwave dead

First, there is an outlet. Plug in something else. Inside the key panel, there are fuses and a thermo sensor. Either may be bad. The thermosensor is about the diameter of a dime, black and 3/8 inch thick...attached to the wall of the chamber. All should have continuity.

Hamburger in foil wrap put in microwave - shorted unit out

Hi- The first thing here is safety. If the power supply is good- 120v at outlet- then address the fuse in the cabinet. Open door, remove screw(s) holding control panel, and tilt out panel. Fuse should be visible. Check for continuity. If bad, replace with 15amp appliance fuse. Plug in and check for operation. If fuse blows again, unplug and start looking at a new microwave. Let me know if this info helps. Have more if needed- Thanks- Ed

My microwave seems to have overheated and is not shut off. breaker is okay, outlet works

Hi there,

Well Certain models of Whirlpool microwave ovens have a problem with their thermal fuse that causes them to overheat. Whirlpool has a service bulletin out on this problem.

CORRECTION: Install a thermal cut-off repair kit (Part #8205204) to
repair the wire and terminals. Once this is done, a new
rework kit (Part #8184461) must be installed.

Good Luck!!

Outlet works but the microwave is dead, no power at all.

I had a similar problem with my Whirlpool microwave. I replaced a fuse (after reading posts in this forum) and it's working again.  I'm not sure how similar your model is, but in my case it was an in-line fuse in a wire leading down from the main fuse in the upper right corner behind the control panel.

I have power to the plug, but nothing to the unit when it is plug

First unplug the unit.
This can be caused by one of two possible conditions.
You may have blown a fuse inside the unit or the thermistor may have blown. You can check them with a simple ohm meter. You will have to take the covers off to access the parts. The thermistor is located at the air outlet. This thermal resistor (thermistor) is designed to open if heated too hot and shut power to prevent fires. You can see a diagrams at;

It's usually the thermistor.
The parts can be purchase at electronics stores like Radio Shack.

Whirlpool GH7155XHS microwave shows partial display

The display is defective and requires replacement. Unfortunately, the display is probably incorporated as a unit with the control panel and must be purchased as an entire service part. This will cost $80-$120 depending on the oven make & model. It will cost more if you have a repairer install the part.

It may be more cost effective to replace the oven. Microwave ovens are rather inexpensive these days.

Buttons #3 & 8 on control panel not working

Sounds like your keypad has failed and you need the fan circuit repaired on the control panel.

We regularly repair these control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week with a one-year guarantee.

Add to that about $75 for the keypad.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Microwave dead, no power.

The thermal sensor is about the size of a dime, black with 2 wires to it, and attached to the oven cavity. It should be a normally closed circuit. bypassing this temporarily will show if it is open or closed. If oven works, that is your problem, but do not use oven with this bypassed. It sounds like you have some electrical knowledge, but be very careful as there is high voltage potential inside the microwave.

Microwave jsut went dead. No power, and there is power at the outlet.

check the fuse inside, watch out with those can capacitors as they can give you a nasty shock. For your protection unplug the microwave and wait 24 hours to let the capacitors discharge, then open and find fuse which is usually near the power supply, check fuse, if dead replace it.
