Question about Dell Inspiron 1521 Notebook

1 Answer

My hard drive recently crashed and I had it replaced. When I input my headset/micrphone into the left side jacks on my laptop, I can hear, but my microphone is not working. In fact, the computer is not even registering that a device has been plugged into my laptop. Before the crash a screen would pop up asking me about the device that I plugged in...what should I do...is there a setting that I need to re-enable so that the headset and microphone are registering on my laptop?

Audio input jack for headphone component broke off need to find new input and how to replace

No way to do that unless you can figure out a way to remove the part. The contacts inside that plug determine where the sound goes. No way to turn it off unless you remove the broken part. If you feel confident enough, remove the back of the TV and remove the broken piece from the jack.

Everytime i hit the blue button on the desk set i don't hear a dial tone in my head piece

Two things to remember. If you're connected through the handset jack, the handset (receiver) needs to be lifted off the phone to get a dial tone. Secondly, if you're connected through the headset jack, you may need to adjust the configuration dial (round dial on left-hand side of base) to make it work when the headset button on phone is pushed.

A kinky noise is coming from bottom left of the laptop near the touch pad in my new dell inspiron 1545 laptop

Back up all your data, cause your hard drive is about to crash.  Your new hard drive should be a Hitachi or Samsung because they are super reliable.  Stay away from Seagate or Western Digital cause they ****. Thats why they always have to advertise to get people to buy their sh.t

Micrphone doesnt work

No one hears you because your microphone is probably set on mute. Go to your start menu, then go to control Panel, find Volume and Sound Control should be the icon that looks like a speaker. Double click that icon. From there Click Options and then properties, find the Microphone option and click the box to the left. This should add Microphone to your menu, then simply unmute your microphone.

Logitech headset, new vista operating system

either the headset is not supported by Vista, or you need to right click on both speaker icons, normally coloured red and black and in the properties you need to see if your headset is listed as one of the microphone input devices, if you need to make the Logitech headset the default mic and not the windows generic mic. If you do not see it in the properties then it may not be recognised by Vista.
