SOURCE: Need to find contact breaker

Hi marie hourig...

Set your gap between .18 and .20...if you do not have a feeler gauge to get the clearance right, then you can use a paper match book is approximatly the same thickness as you need.

About .030". Remove the muffler if you can and look to see if the piston is all scored up. You may be using garbage gas or mix oil as well.

Hooking up wires on ignition coil on a mac-10-10-chainsaw

There are 2 items that you need to pay close attention to is the air gaps;
1. Air gap of the points, and
2. Air gap between the permanent magnet and the pick up coil.
Use the manual to determine the proper gap size.

Good Luck,

Have a farmall super m need gap measurement on the points

The point gap should be 0.013 inches. You should also check the end play and run out on the shaft before point installation (vertical & horizontal movement)- should be minimal or the engine will run erratic or not at all if too loose.

I'd like to know what steps to take to replace the contact points on a 1978 Poulan Micro XXV Super Deluxe 14" chain saw

Its a long time since i saw one of these, however, start by removing the starter cover screws and the starter itself, you need to remove the flywheel nut,1/2 spanner as far as i remember, strike the non magnet side of the flywheel with a suitable hammer, the flywheel should just pop off, remove the points back plate cover, this should just pull off, the points and condensor are all one peice, held with two screws, either clean the points or replace the assembly, the back plate will have slots to allow you to set the points gap, the gap is between 12 and 15 thousands of an inch, put a small amount of grease on the felt pad against the cam, refit the flywheel and nut, take care to re fit it onto the woodruff key properly, the air gap between the coil and the flywheel should be set at approx 0.5mm, re fit the starter and check for a spark.

Point gap setting and timing

sorry my memory is fading. i would gap at 35 and for the timing i used to use a glass of water (sometimes it wasn;t water) put it on the air filter and turn the distributer till it shook the least. of course i had no money ,those days to buy a timing light or manuals....or you might contact/join a old ford club. they are tops for such first car was a ford custom 65......
