1973 ford f 250 new carb, and gas tank. fuel pump is less than a year old. will not start/run. acts like it is starved for gas.

Hey Dutch, have you tried anything like starting fluid to see if it will run..If it will not run, try removing the fuel line going to the carb..(does this carb have a filter in the inlet fitting???)..once the fuel line is loose.. (BE CAREFUL!) ..try starting the engine and see if fuel is pumped through the line to the carb...if you are not getting gas there.. time to work backwards until you find the problem..(does this engine have the fuel pump mounted on the side of the engine,if yes.. remember the fuel pump has to "pull" the fuel from the tank)..If you are getting fuel TO the carb.. make sure the carb is "taking" the fuel..(inlet filter).if you are getting fuel to the carb,, and it will still NOT RUN..(and won't run using "starting fluid")..its time to start looking for a timed spark..(assuming the engine has compression).. when you have done this, reply back to me on here... thanks... please mark as helpful.. Good luck..

Wont run unless you keep pouring gas in carb, whati the problem.

Hi kim:
Fuel delivery is not happening.
I'd check for:
- fuel in tank
- petcock turned on
- filter not clogged
- fuel getting to carb
- carb float chamber not filled with contaminate
- jets not plugged
If fuel is getting to the carb I would drain it, try again, if still no go, remove and clean carb.

I have a 1963 chevy nova II straight-6. I am having trouble getting it to run without pouring gasoline into the carb. I have replaced the filters and fuel pump. What else could be the problem?

the needle and seat in the carburetor might be stuck shut. Pull the fuel supply line off of the carburetor and unhook the coil wire, so the engine will not fire, crank the engine and make sure the fuel pump is pumping fuel to the carb. If there isn't fuel getting to the carb then you will need to look elsewhere, like maybe the sending unit in the tank. But if you do have good fuel getting to the carb then it is probably the needle and seat in the carb.

Does my older lowes mtd riding mower have a fuel pump?

If it is a Briggs Twin it is part of the carb , if not it will be a vacuum pump somewhere close to the engine because it is driven by a vacuum hose hooked to the block . As the piston goes up and down the pulse of the vacuum moves a diaphragm in the pump to move the gas from the tank that is lower then the carb .

Fuel not getting to carb

remove carb...remove float and float jet...blow through with compressed air. Check float height and also check float for holes.

Not getting fuel to carb

You need to make sure you have connected the fuel lines uo correctly i.e the fuel line from the tank with the fuel filter on the end must go to the fuel inlet side of the carb not to the primer.

Not getting gas to spark plugs.why not

try a fuel filter first.if not the filter, you may need a fuel pump or the wireing to it replaced or repaired.

Not getting fuel to the carb on riding lawn mower with 16 1/2 hp ohv. will the fuel solenoid on the carb cause this ?

The solenoid only controls fuel from the carburetor bowl to the main jet.
If you arent getting fuel to the carb bowl your problem may lie upstream of the solenoid.

For "supply issues" check fuel line, inline-filter, shut-off valve (if equipped) and in-tank screen (if equipped).

If bowl is getting adequate supply, the solenoid might be suspect. Remove and clean with carb-cleaner spray as needed.

Hope this helps.

Wont run, not getting fuel. disconnected fuel filter, still nothing. Can spray a shot of carb cleaner directly into carb, and will run until it burns the fuel then dies. Check and getting good spark.

you say it's not getting fuel? when you bypassed the filter was gas coming out of the fuel line right where it connects to the carb? If it runs on ether, carb cleaner or pouring fuel in the carb then your problem wont be the the carb or motor it will be something like a cracked, dryrotted or pinhole in the fuel line. Or something restricting the flow from the tank to the carb.
