Hi,
Yes you certainly need a cable connection before you can use the wireless capabilities of the cable modem.
Without a cable connection the modem is useless.

Do I need a cord from my computor to the printer to set it up or just the disk?

While this may seem oversimplified, RTM = Read The Manual on setup.

If it's wireless, you don't need a cable to setup the printer with the computer's OS.

If it isn't wireless, then yes, you will need a printer cable to set the printer up with the computer OS.

I have lost the security code and have a new laptop, how do i set it up to work

Hi!

If you don't remeber the wireless security code, maybe you still remeber the user and password to access the web management interface of the router.
Then you have to connect the laptop to the router by using a network cable. Open a browser window, type in the IP adress of your router and check the wireless setup section. There you can find / modify the wifi security code.

If you don't know the router's IP adress, then open on your computer a ms-dos prompt and type the command
ipconfig /all

it will display your current IP adress, subnet mask and GATEWAY. The gateway adress is the router's IP adress that must be typed into the browser.

If you don't remember the user and password for accessing the router's web interface, please refer to the router's user manual in order to reset it to factory default configuration, and then proceed as for the first installation of the router.

Hope it helped,

Bogdan

I need to install the router but the disk got broken.

You don't really need to install the router just for you to use it to your pc. What you need to accomplish is the setup or the configuration of your linksys router so that you can use either wireless or ethernet cable connection. You need the information from your internet service provider the internet connection type of your internet whether it is DHCP or PPPOE so that you can set it up on your router. You can use this link for wireless setup - http://www.columbia.edu/acis/networks/aptnet/linksys/index.html

My printer is asking me for a WPA passphrase in order to connect to the router. Where do I find this?

Your printer must have wireless capability. It is asking for your wireless security passphrase in order to join the wireless network. This passphrase is the key/phrase that you created when you setup your wireless network. You will need to login to your router and go to wireless setting section to find out what the passphrase is if you don't remember it. Thanks

I am told I need a cable to connect the printer to the computer but the printer is wireless

You wouldnt not as long as you have a wireless router hooked up so the printer can communicate with your pc. If you dont have wireless router then yes you would need wire. Even though printer is wireless it has to communicate wirelessly with something..

Purchased x5650 printer as it stated it was wireless,on trying to install,i am being told it requires a usb cable how can it be described as wireless

Please refer to the "User's Guide that came with the printer. The wireless setup instructions start on page 45.

The most used connection interface is the USB connection protocol. Therefore the instalation program is set up that way. Once you have the printer setup and comminiating with the PC you can then set the printer for wireless operation.

Belkin router, apple lap top and del Inspiron are the three I have in the house. How to connect the new computer to the router?

You should be able to hardwire (Ethernet cable) those pc's to the router. If it is wireless and you are not running cables directly from the router to the pc's, you have to have wireless cards installed in each of those computers in order to pick up the 802.11 wireless signal. The wireless software on the pc will find the router as long as the router is in range. If you have setup the router properly you should be fine. You may just need to power out and reboot the modem and router after connecting the pc's in order to assign new IP's to each computer receiving a wireless signal.

If you have any problems please respond with as much information as possible including model numbers and ISP provider.
