Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have a Lexmark X4850 that I am running wirelessly and using Lexmark 41a and 42a cartridges. I recently had these cartridges refilled by a reputable remanufacturer in town and now when I send anything to print from the computer, my documents only print in black & white. If I make a copy on the printer the color works fines. We have also placed these cartridges in another printer and all color prints fine. (So we no it is not bad cartridges.) But for some reason with my printer, I cannot get any color when I send a print command directly from the computer. Can you help me with this?

Actually, me remanufacturer does give a guarantee on the cartridges that he refills. It is clearly not an issue with the cartridge, if i have no problem when I am making a copy on the same machine but get no color on the same machine when sending a print from the computer. I understand all of the aspects of using refilled cartridges and the electronic aspect, but this is clearly not a cartridge problem.

Can you provide any help with this issue. I have identified that this is not a cartridge issue. Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks

Sounds like the configuration on the printer is set as "Black & white only)". Go to printer properties, click the tab "Color" and check if "Only back cartridge" is selected.

For more step details:

Click START
Click CONTROL PANEL
Double click PRINTER AND FAXES icon
Right click to the printer icon and choose PROPERTIES
Check if there is a TAB named as "COLOR" and choose Color printing. If there is not such tab, click "Device settings" tab and select COLOR & BLACK cartridges.
(If no color tab nor "device settings" have such setting, click each tab to determine where the color cartridge can be enabled.

Hope it helps, good luck !

That is correct, this is not a cartridge issue, It's a configuration issue (at printer properties in your computer).

Hi,
When you refill the ink cartridges no one gives you a warrantee or guarantee of any type…as this involve lots of small sensors and the ink is not big deal, but it’s the sensors that count, and if you keep exchanging the ink with other machines that is not good idea as every time you pull it out and in again it may damage the wiring in the cartridges if it did not get inserted fully in place and in some occasions the wires gets bind or cut, etc. So if you are going to use this service more do not change the ink between units and keep them in one machine.
Now to fix this issue you may need to run and self cleaning or alignment to get some of the dry ink out from the jets. Addition to that clean the back of the ink cartridges with a soft cloth and the inside housing them do the self cleaning using the software.
If you need help with anyone then please let me know and I will help with it. Please do not forget to rate my service so we can improve on it with your help. God bless

My Lexmark 4800 version x4850 says there's a cartridge missing!

This can be one out of two things. Either a faulty cartridge, or the cartridge holder. If you still have the old cartridge, insert that one. If now it only displays 'Cartridge Empty', it means that the printer can see the cartridge, and it's your new cartridge that is faulty. If it's still showing Cartridge Missing, it's most likely your printer that is faulty. In either case, you should contact Lexmark Technical Support and they'll provide you with a solution.

You can also try cleaning the contacts in your cartridge Holder with a dry cloth.

Refill ink for Lexmark X4850

I have a couple questions for you.
1. Is your cartidge 42 or 42A? The 42 cartridge will not work if you refill it. I learned that the hard way after paying to have it refilled and I got it home and it would not print. If you are using the 42A refillable cartridge, your ink levels will not reset. I called lexmark to ask them after not bieng able to find any answers online. He said that because I am using the 42A, it will print but will not register the level. The only downside is I have to keep an eye out for fading so that I do not ruin the printer heads.

I hoped this helped.

Lexmark x4850. swapped oem with non-oem black cartridge. will not print black now. message says warranty does not support non-lexmark and prints blank pages.

“Lexmark does not support the refilling of its ink cartridges. Refilling the ink cartridges can cause them to leak, thus clogging or even damaging the print head. Any damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges may not be covered under warranty”. Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.

Using a refilled ink cartridge on a Lexmark x4850

Yes, most Lexmark cartridges as well as many other manufactures use something called 'Smart' Chips in the bottom of the ink cartridge. Usually unplugging your (about 10 seconds) printer resets the memory in the printer. Hope this helps!

My lexmark x4850 keeps telling me that there is not a color cartridge installed after i put a new photo cartridge in.

Did you replace the color cartridge with a Lexmark product or is it a off brand new cartridge or did you refill the cartridge yourself?

I just refilled the cartrige, but it says the ink is low, My printer brand is Lexmark2400.

You may have a non refillable cartridge.
Lexmark has an interesting development with their inkjet cartridges which they began some years ago with toner cartridges. A court decision required Lexmark to allow their cartridges to be refilled. However, Lexmark would naturally prefer that you only buy from Lexmark. Thus, Lexmark has developed the following system:
  • Lexmark offers for sale two different versions of the same cartridge:
  • The regular version (#23, #24, #28, #29, #41, #42) is not refillable. It is the "Return Program" or "Prebate" cartridge. Supposedly, when you buy this cartridge you agree to return the empty cartridge to Lexmark. In return, Lexmark gives you roughly $5 off the retail list price of the cartridge.
  • The "A" version (#23A, #24A, #28A, #29A, #41A, #42A) can easily be refilled. However, the price of the cartridge is roughly $5 higher than the regular version, so most people unknowingly buy the regular version.
