Question about Hoover U5507900 Elite Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum
I am having a similar problem with my hoover elite rewind making a loud motor sound and smell. I have replaced the belt twice and cleaned the brushes of hair and checked all hoses. I do have the same suction so everything appears free from jams. Replacing the belt is not the solution, any suggestions before I tear into the motor?

Check the hose and take the bottom plate of the vacuum off to check for obstructions that you can't see right away. Use a wire coathanger (unwound) to push any clog through. I also have dogs and this vacuum. It does get clogged with fur occaisionally.

Is there suction at the end of the hose, if not then the blockage is in the hose, unhook the hose and dig out the debris, if hose isn't blocked, then clean out the filters, if they get clogged, then air can;t flow thru them and you won't have suction. If you have suction at the end of the hose, then it is clogged down in the nozzle asm. there is an inlet by the brush roll and it comes up to where the hose plugs into. Clean the clog out.

The belt inside my Hoover broke and so we replaced it. But when we did, it now makes an extremely loud noise when turned on. We think it’s the roller to the vacuum because it doesn't make a noise when the roller is not in there. The roller sounds like its hitting something. However, we have pushed and pulled and done everything and all seems to be right. Everything is clicked in and the belt is on correctly and we've followed the manual. How can I fix this problem?
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It sounds to me that it is a bad brushroll and could need new bearings or a complete new brushroll depending on if id is metal word or plastic. Some brushrolls are rebuildable and some are not, you can check your owner’s manual to see if it is or is not; or it could be the start of a broken fan blade or bearing in the motor section. But that is the only thing that I can think of that might be wrong. even though the belt isnt broken you should replace it also make sure the height is raised up on the nozzle. try dropping a marble through the hose to double check there is nothing stuck ( the attachment hose and the small hose that runs to the floor )

SOURCE: carpet setting not working
there is a belt in the nozzle that is driven by a small motor in turn will drive the roller when set to carpet. did you completely dis-assemble the nozzle? ie, to remove the roller and clean the endcaps? this would also show the belt. The gear on the motor wears very easily and could also be worn. I would change the nozzle or get a new Flair. new nozzles cost about $25-$30.
