Jm...I'm guessing you are not able to see the numbers in the timer portion but that it will accept keyboard commands. This sounds like the main board is going and the drivers are not working or it might just be that the display is bad...generally these are replaced as a unit.

Microwave does not shut off when door is opened.

It may be a bad door switch or mount, or maybe a relay on the control board is sticking.

First, see our safety info here.

Then we have a helpful file on diagnosing and replacing door switches here.

If that's not the issue, we regularly repair control circuit boards for $39.95, or you can order a new one (part number 8205237) for $203.08 here.

My whirlpool microwave will not heat. Model no gh6177xps-4. was working last night.

Did you search this site for this problem? I have posted a answer to this site several times.

My response is please check the door safety interlock switches. These switches fail because we (count me in the number) open the door while the oven is running. Eventually, they arc enough and fail. When they fail, the oven doesn't know the door is shut and will not turn on the magnatron. Forget what you know about the door. The oven needs to know.

F7 ERROR CODE ON GH6177XPS

This is a known problem with this unit, and whirlpool has put out a Service Flash out on this. The reason this is happening is Electrical circuit interruption between the L1 and Neutral in the microwave invert circuit. This has to be addressed by a Tech.

Your generator may be putting out a square wave instead of a true sinusoidal (sine) wave.

There is usually a circuit in the microwave which monitors the AC line for timing purposes, and a square wave may not be interpreted correctly.

I would consult the manual or contact the manufacturer or installer.
