SOURCE: i can't print a good quality picture using photo paper

Make sure that you've adjusted the quality of your picture via the printer software. If everything checks out in those settings, try using the option to realign the ink cartridges, also found in the printer software. If all else fails clean up the cartridges themselves with a moist cloth (one that you won't mind staining) and try again. If that still fails, replace the cartridges, and if you still can't get a clear picture, I would assume that the printer isn't capable of producing the quality that you need.

Very impotant to select type of using paper. Some thick or thin paper need to use special settings in menus of pinters. Please read user manual in chapter "working with paper". Use must use only original Samsung toner cartridges if you dont want to see faded on other side.

Understanding how laser printer works

Printing technology on organic photoconductor drum (OPC Drum) is summarized by the following 6 steps:http://i.fixya.netmabroukmedal_18.jpg
STEP1:The OPC drum must be charged with a negative charge, (electrons)
the primery charge roller apply a hight voltage to the drum.Note:if this step missing, (poor contact in the high voltage) the page will be printed all black) the charge roller is located on the drum.
http://i.fixya.netmabroukmedal_19.jpg

STEP2: The laser beam reach the drum surface to discharge the zone of text that will be printed on the paper. Note: if the laser beam don't reach the drum,( the interlock switch is not actuated when the front cover is closed) the image will not be formed on the drum. the laser unit is showing on this picture:

http://i.fixya.netmabroukmedal_20.jpg

STEP3:the developping cylinder prepare the toner to be taken by the drum, the surface that was touched by the laser beam are positive, they attract the toner by electrostatic force, the other zone push the toner because they have the same charge (both negative, coulomb law). the image will be formed on the drum surface.the developping roller is located on the cartridge.

STEP4:the transfer roller attract the image formed on the drum surface to the paper.Note: if the high voltage not reach the transfer roller, the paper comes out blank (poor contact), or if the transfert roller is dirty the quality of printing is bad. these is the picture of the transfert roller and the paper pickup roller :

http://i.fixya.netmabroukmedal_23.jpg

STEP5:the image was transfered to the paper, and must be fixed by temperature, and pressure. the fixing unit or fusing unit is composed of :the hot roller and a pressure roller.
http://i.fixya.netmabroukmedal_26.jpg

http://i.fixya.netmabroukmedal_27.jpg

STEP 6: the clean blade or cleaning roller remove the residuel toner on the drum surface, to prepare for a new print operation. Note :if the cleaning step was not performed the page comes out with the trace of the last print page.

New Black Toner Cartrige Poor print quality

I have solved this problem. You will have to remove the imaging unit from the printer. Once out, remove the two screws that secures the drum to the imaging color rollers. This is the tricky part...carefully pry the two tabs in the back of the drum bracket to separate the whole unit. Once out, you will see all four color rollers. Carefully remove each one in order...black will be the last. Once the black roller and toner container is out, proceed to remove the 4 phillip screws that hold the metal distribution plate. The problem is that the heat will bond a small amount of toner on to this plate and keep it from distributing toner properly. Carefully scrape the inside of this thin plate..you will feel a rough edge. Scrape until smooth and reinstall the plate back into the toner container. Reinstall everything back and VOILA!
Have fun fixing this printer!

Print quality on Lexmark T640

There are 2 likely possibilities:
1. Very dark print usually indicates your charge roller is not removing the charge from the drum.
The charge roller "erases" the charge laid down by the laser from the previous pass and prepares it for the next portion of the image. If not erased or has a latent charge it will pull toner onto the drum. Try changing the charge roller . 2. Your wiper blade in the cartridge may not be properly wiping excess toner. Swap the toner cartridge with another and see if the problem goes away.
There is a video here you can watch on changing the charge roller:

Bad photo quality after changing drum

your laser printer
1) print color quality is now distorted that means print skew (technician called)
2) print tint means the print color not enough density,
3) print mottle means print dirty
you may try
1) print distorted--- find out the skew adjustment from your printer manu, it is adjust the image before transfer to the drum.
2) print skew could be happened when the drum replace install not very accurate, so install it more carefully.
3) print tint---you may increase print density from the manu, not fix,
4) print tint---the toner caridge near life cycle or using the less compatible toner. so you have change the quality toner or cartridge (if near life cycle) to improve quality photo print
5)print mottle---toner quality ? or cartridge near life cycle also cause print dirty paper,

Deteriorating image quality

Good Evening Robert,

The setting for non dell toner only controls the fuser temperature, and will not cause you any print quality issues. Toner is actually made up of ink and plastic. The fuser melts the plastic to "fuse" the image to the paper. Dell toner is set to "fuse" at a specific temperature. when you use non Dell toners, the temperature required to fuse may be different, and when set to non dell toner setting, the fuser temperature is raised to the maximum to ensure the other toner fuses properly. The down side to this is that you will wear out the fuser sooner then it should.

As far as the print quality issue you are having, it is most likey caused by the imaging drum.

Regardless of the estimated life for the imaging drum as stated by the printer, this is just an estimate. Many things can and will cause the imaging drum need replacing. ( Just yesterday I replaced a black toner in a 3115 that was less then a month old... genuine Dell... with more then 75% expected usage left because it was defective).

On this printer, each of the 3 colors and the black are all independent of each other with the exception of the imaging drum. Even within the imaging drum, cyan and black are independent of magenta and yellow on the first stage of transfer. When you have deteriorated print quality that effects more then one color, the first step is to replace the imaging drum.

The Primary transfer, secondary transfer, and tertiary transfer of the image are ALL contained within the imaging drum.

The chances of having 3 or 4 bad Developers is very very slim. If your print quality issue was related to only ONE color, then I would say you had a bad developer unit ( the 4 items located behind the imaging drum when removed). These are far more difficult and expensive to change.

The BTR ( bios transfer roller ) is the only other item that "could" effect your print quality, however, based on the symptoms you discribed, I doubt it. Besides, if i am not mistaken, the imaging drum kit comes with a new btr anyway.

Although I am sure you may be disappointed with the fact the drum unit is failing while showing it still has life remaining, the solution to replace it should restore your unit to full operation. The unit is light sensative, and effected by physical age as well as the number of prints it has supplied.

Please evaluate the solution i have provided and, rate the solution appropriately to show your support.

Thanks,
Cory

Magicolor 2300dl ghosting and smear - black only

if only black does that, then it can be black toner, but the best way to find out, print something and when printer starts to take paper open front door, remove waste toner box and take out pc drum and transfer belt and check the printed page from there, if it seems ok, print nex page and open door when page comes out from fusin unit, if quality goes bad before fusing unit, it may lead to 2'nd transfer roller / pc drum and transfer belt quality was ok / if after FU then you have a problem in fusing unit.

Improve print quality

If you have changed drum AND toner, and reset drum count, cleaned scan slit glass on lit then only other thing to clean that can cause dirty prints is laser glass, (remove drum, inside where drum goes there is a slit the rund width of printer on inside middle "ceiling"

The orange piece I take it is the lower heat roller at rear, cleaning this is not going to fix anything.. this area called the fuser sometimes the fuser wears the coating off the upper heat roller (above orange one) and leaves like a smudge mark on prints, like I say cleaning wont fix replacingfuser with new would be what is required

I find a lot of grey shading on prints on this model are from faulty toner cartridges, next is drum then worn fuser roller... Stop a print half way (timing) in machine remove drum and look at print, after drum but pre fuser ,to see if image is ok before entering fuser, then we know if that is your problem
