Question about Acer Aspire™ T180 PC Desktop

1 Answer

I have about 39gb of family pics and music saved on my freecom 250gb external hard drive and I have had to reboot my system with a backup file using ACER e-recovery management. since then my external hard drive has not been assigned a drive letter in my computer but is showing up in disc management by right clicking my computer, right clicking the hard drive only gives the help page, there is no access to re-format the device to bring it back to a recognised drive accessible by "my computer". There are no conflicts in device manager and the hard drive is there showing as no problems and enabled. can i retrieve the data or reconfigure the disk to access the data. help

In the control panel, go to administrative tools, open computer management. On the left side, there will be a "Disk Management" section, use that to assign a drive letter to your hard drive.

-you did not mention what process you used to save the files. Did you use the software that came with the drive to save data? or built-in software of windows? -If you still can, try the manual way of saving files like highlighting files/folders then copying them to the external drive.

Probable reason for failure of a disk is power, if the power is adequate may be some of its components like inductor, diodes in series with the power line are opened, check for any burn marks on the pcb

this might be a tab bit late....but most external hard drives do not come with too much info if any at all...go to start/my computer/you see the the external drive...right click on it (to get it ready for use) select properties..format it...yes/okay...now its ready for you to download any file you wish...you see the letter on it (the "c" drive is your primary drive)...this drive is your secondary drive....so when you are typing in word/excel and you want to save...you will save as (pick the drive letter)...same as music /video you will save as (pick the drive)...now right now you can click on the external hard drive it just open (blank page)..right click any where on the page..now pick new folder type "music" (this folder is where you can store music...now right click again on the page click new folder again rename it "photos' and can create folders for any thing you wish..when you save you just pick this drive/folder...feel free to rate the help

Evidently, MAC and Windows are not compatible. All you need to do is to download and install a software for your MAC to handle file/s from Windows. Thank you.

Assuming this external hard drie is powered via USB, you probably just need the drivers:

Ok then it is the HD, you can take it in to a computer store and have them save the information off of the drive. You can also go to the manufactures web site and see what the waranty is like on the HD also, you may be able to get a new one to replace the defective one. But first and fore-most, go into the closest circit city and see about getting the information saved onto another hard disc.
