Step 1: Take the camera firmly in hand and bang the bottom part against a hard surface. A desk works really well!

Step 2. Take off the right side molding and blow compressed air (A LOT) in the bottom of the camera.

If it doesn't work repeat step 1 and 2 again.

I had this problem and now it all works out!

SOURCE: camera closes itself

I think it's rubbing against the ring around the lens. Too much pessure and the lens won't stay out. Or, the battery is low.

SOURCE: I don't know whats wrong

Clean all battery acid off with a Qtip, a little water and baking soda. Wet tip of Qtip, dip in baking soda a rub on contacts, use clean Qtp with water only and reclean. Then blow all water out and dry completely. Buy a new battery, old on is leaking acid do not reuse. This should solve problem.

Nikon s9300 - When I turn it on, the lense fully extends, but the screen stays black. I have to pop the battery out, then put back in for the lense to retract. Battery is fully charged and even tried

When the battery is fully charged, please put it in again. That means, if it is still in, remove it once again.
Switch it on, and even if you don't see a thing try to make a picture.
Then press the display button several times, to see if anything comes on the screen again.
If the camera does not respond after that, you should go back to the dealer, of contact Nikon.

Camera immediatly shuts off and lense goes back in.

Sounds to me that ist is more of a charger issue. Try to borrow another charger and see if that works or not.

Sony cybershot 7.2 went to shut off camera and lense is still out no power to camera tried to recharge batt. w/no results

Try different batteries. I got the same problem with my cyber-shot. The battery was too low while lense was fully open. I recharged, but the lense would not close. When I turn it on, It would say turn off and on again. I did that for at least 20 times. I finally put another set of batteries and while I turned off the camera, I pressed the lense in very softly. After a couple of times the lense retracted fully. The camera has been working normally ever since.

It is also possible some dirt some how got on the sides of your lense. Try cleaning the sides of the lense.

If you had no luck so far, then your lense may have some mechanical problem. The lense need to be opened and cleaned and put back together.
good luck

Try camera on stays on for 2 seconds and then shuts off

Chage your batteries and try again. Try different set of new batteries. It is also possible some dirt somehow got on the outside of the lense and it prevents lense from opening all the way out. Clean the outside of the lense. Good luck

I just got a kodak c913 camera yesterday and everytime i switch it on it stays on for seconds and then switches off, help!

My co-worker brought me a C913 with the same problem. I took out the batteries, took out the SD card, played with the buttons... nothing. A web search was unfruitfull. For fun, when I turned it on, I grabbed and held the lens. The camera turned off but the lense stayed out. I turned on the camera, the lense stayed out and the camera WORKED! I turned it off, the lense docked properly. I turned it back on, it worked... Woohoo! Theory: Either the lense was slow at coming (binding) out or was not coming out far enough. The camera shut itself off because it wasn't fully extended in an alloted period of time. Hope it works for you. Glennster™

Camera will not power up correctly

Again the same old compact camera zoom lens problems - sand in lens, stuck AF motor, chewed up plastic gears...you only have to look at them wrong and they will die... (A very cynical camera repairer that has tried to repair these damn things soo often!!) Even cameras with internal lenses like the old Nikon 950/990/4500 still have troubles with stuck motors and broken lens parts. I despair - these things are just made to last the guarantee out (if that long) and die horribly afterwards!!

Did you place a new battery in? Well, try doing that.
