Hello,

Don't blame me if I do not give you the right solution for your calculator, whatever brand it may be, but for the Casio calculators FX-115ES, FX-991ES, you use the [S<->D] key.

It sure helps to know what calculator we are talking about.

If you enter an improper fraction or a mixed fraction with the the [a b/c] key it will be displayed as a fraction. This result being displayed you can press the [F-D] key to convert the fraction to decimal. If you do nothing else and you press the [F-D] key again, the original fraction will be restored.

However, it seems that you cannot enter an arbitrary decimal number and convert it to a fraction. The [F-D] key seems to work one way : from a fraction to a decimal number. You will only recover a fraction if the original number was a fraction.

Hello,

If you call a simple addition a problem it is no wonder that everything seems so difficult.

When you calculate the** sum **6.11 +6.11 , the calculator gives you a fraction reduced to it simplest terms, **611/50**. The result is correct, but it happens that you want it
expressed as a decimal rather than a fraction. To fix that all you have
to do is to press the button **[S<->D] ** above the red [DEL] key. It allows you to toggle the display format between fraction and decimal.

611/50 [S<->D] changes display to 12.22 and if you press the key again you go back to fraction

12.22 [S<->D] 611/50

Similarly, if you enter square root of 2 and it displays as a radical, you convert it to a decimal by pressing the key [S<->D].

The fraction and radical formats allow you to do exact claculations. But if you do not want to hear about that you can just press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO] : Your calculator will do things the old way, but you will lose some important functionalities.

My suggestion is to set the default mode [MathIO] by pressing [SHIFT][MODE][MathIO] and to press the [S<->D] key to convert to decimal.

Hope it helps.

1) Press the "SHIFT" button

2) Press the "MODE/SETUP" button

3) Press the "2" button

This Changes it to LINEIO (Decimal)

Doing all of the above but pressing the "1" button instead of the "2" puts it back into MATHIO mode (Fraction)
