Question about Acer Aspire 6920 Notebook PC

1 Answer

I want to upgrade some hardware on my aspire 6920g

I have a6920g, its current spec is:

intel core2duo t5750 @ 2ghz
250gb hdd
4gb ram
512gb NVIDIA GeForce 9500GS
1366x768 res 16" screen
and DVD-RW drive.

The things i am interested in upgrading (because i know they were available on the same base with diff specs) are, HD screen (full hd 1080p), Bluray drive, meatier processor (poss 2.4ghz t8000 series or similar if they fit etc) and also a mini pci-e tv card (i have a spare slot and i know that was available on one of the specs)

All i need to know is what hardware compatibility issues would i have, if any, and Is it worth my while.

thanks very much for you help

There shouldn't be any issues in upgrading those features, I have personally swapped processors on OEM systems for juicier processors with no issues and swapping out for a bluray drive shouldn't give you any problems either (personally I will be doing the same thing) The screen I haven't seen available to the 6920 Ive seen it for the 8920 but thats 18.4 I believe so that wouldn't fit but if you know that there is one that was put into your model computer then I should definitely work on your computer. as far as the mini pci-e TV card we do have the blank spot BUT I do not believe this one is possible due to also needing the board to insert in the TV tuner location its possible it could work but I do not believe so.

Cost of game hardware in india

2GB RAM should be about $100, the same for installation. Your current graphics card meets the specs you provided. An upgraded video card will be about $200 for one that will work, $300 for one that will work well.

The PC hangs up at random, and come back after a while.

Consult your manual, see what the light means, it could refer to hard drive light activity or be a function key you've activated. It could mean the system is trying to push itself into standby or it could mean a variety of things. Get back to me with what the lights designation is.

ASUS P5L-VM 1394 mother

Here is a link to a website that identifies the specs for your motherboard, and also identifies the type of processors that are compatible with your motherboard. It is Intel Core 2 duo/ Intel Core 2 duo Extreme capable.

It looks like you have a good candidate for a gaming pc, in my opinion. I would suggest that you upgrade the memory to its max of 4 GB. This link also has a list of all compatible memory modules for your motherboard, If you click on a memory module, there is an option on the next page to tell you where you can buy it and for how much.
