Hi- i just tested my SKYPE CAM AGAIN- AND I WAS RIGHT!--- ITS DEFINATELY A POWER ISSUE- CAUSE WHEN I RUN MY LAPTOP ON A FULLUY POWERED BATTERY the cam freezes up- but when i plug in the power cord the cam runs smoothly with no problems-- is this common? looks like skype cam needs more power than MSN OR YAHOO CAM- NO?

I recommend windows messenger or windows live messenger. This is made with skype and capabilities. Make sure you are using a correct usb port that has power capabilites. Not all do.

Hi,

This is not a issue with the laptop.

This is the bug with the latest version of skype, which is experianced by most of the people around the world.

My advice is try downloading either Skype 2.6 or Skyple 3.5, WHich would fix the issue of cam crash

Yo can get the older version , from the following link

http://www.filehippo.com/download_skype/3206/

Please try it and let me know,

If it still freezes leave me comment, We will tell the next step to solve your issue

May i have your system configuration , please..

Think this must be the reason, you system clocks gets reduces in battery mode to save power, so the video precessing (ie, camera processing) which requires more power gets choked...

You can change your power setting to work with full performance even in battery, from the power option in control panel,,,

THink changing this option might solve your problem,

PLease leave me comment,if you still need further assistance

1- right click on the battery icon
2- click on Adjust power properties
3- click on Power Scheme setting " max battery"
    4- Click on Save as
5- Just add a 2 on the end of Max Battery.
(should look like Max Battery 2)
    6- save the setting
7- unplugg the ac power and your video issue is gone.
8- when you reboot the laptop it will use that max battery 2 setting and you will not notice the difference in performance between max power and desktop power settings

Sorry for late reply, i was busy answering another question'

Please leave me comment, if you need further assistance

What program is the web camera located under I can not find it

Hi
Sometimes webcams do not have a program installed. Go 1. Start>Control Panel>Scanners and Cameras and there you can test the webcam signal here. 2. Download Skype for here http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/home/ and install it. Run a video cam test in Skype http://www.ehow.com/how_2008795_test-webcam-skype.html

I just bought a compaq laptop, then downloaded skype. and my webcam doesnt work..how do i get it to work?

Skype is very particular about having the latest drivers installed so that's the first step
Check your set up

In addition to the webcam software you will need to check the support software - Microsoft DirectX . This comes pre-loaded on most Windows computers but has to be updated - I am currently on version 11
To start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click 'Start', click 'Run', type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK
Run through the tabs checking the 'notes' windows for information and faults.

The version will be shown on the 'Systems' tab

SKYPE SET UP

Connect your webcam

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/
Not working ? - troubleshoot your drivers and software - get your cam working before moving on

Working OK ?

Set your webcam mic as default ( if it has a built in mic)

Plug in the webcam

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
Right click on the volume graph and select 'Show disabled devices' and 'Show disconnected devices'
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

CONFIGURE TO SKYPE
Connect webcam
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start (To reboot the webcam software) - if you have been using it elsewhere the SKYPE software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Start Skype.
On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype 'Options' window, click 'Audio Settings'
Run down the list setting your defaults
Select your webcam as the default microphone.
Make a free test call
Click 'Save'
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
This will launch your webcam
Adjust quality of picture in 'Settings'
Check the correct webcam is shown as default
Click Save
Test your webcam by making a Skype test call.
For more information about how to configure Skype Messenger, please visit the following Skype Web site:
http://support.skype.com (http://support.skype.com)

Before opening Skype disconnect your webcam for a couple of seconds - if its inbuilt restart your computer or disable / enable it from the Imaging folder in the device manager and do not open your cam for a preview but wait and let the Skype software take full control when you start a video chat.

My acer aspire 5315 laptop will not stay on. I can connect to the internet, surf the web, but then it will just shut off like it has lost all power. Is it my battery or my power cord? Or is it something...

Hi there , i think its a cause of your RAM. Remove the RAM from motherboard. clean that & also the RAM slot. Then run your system again. Another reason virus. scan your laptop with updated antivirus.
I am sure at a time your battery & power cable both can't be damaged. If your battery power cable damaged then you can see your system run by battery or opposite right? So try these and follow the battery & power indicator also.
Thanks & waiting for your feedback.

Power issues on HP DV1000

It is possible you have two dud batteries. Recharageable batteries have a limited life, they have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles.
With the battery removed and only the power supply connected and the laptop powered up, when you touch the connector on the laptop and the laptop does not shut down then the laptop connector is OK.

If you can verify your new battery is OK the the fault could be the power supply adapter, if may not produce enought current to run and charge the battery. Try charging the battery overnight by turning off the laptop and leaving on the mains t charge. Borrow a mains adapter and test it on your computer.

You can also check the BIOS setting for power management, ie. hibernate, low power shut down etc.
