Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

1 Answer

Good luck It is the faulty motherboard and to be honest I just called and HP will fix it for $259 which they call a discount. It sucks that we all paid good money for a so called good product only to find out that the company knew there was an issue and then extended our warranties without notification for an extra 12 months from the original 12 month warranty and now that we are all beyond that date they want more $$ to fix it. Very frustrated DV6000 owner.

Unfortunately for laptops you're pretty much stuck with the manufacturer for motherboards, no one else really makes ones for any particular model. That is one of the negatives about laptops.

Good luck and have a wonderful day.

You may find that GPU is gone bad. Temporary fix would be reflowing your chips connections. Go to You Tube and put reflowing motherboard or GPU in search and see how it's done. Be careful you may ruin your system. To be honest it's risky and there's also possibility that chip is completely dead and reflowing will not help. In this case chip needs replacing but i would just get a new motherboard because it's very interesting but complicated to do it yourself without right tools. Hope this helps and good luck

My HP pavillion laptop just shut down. I've been told a need to buy a new motherboard. ¿Where can I buy one at a reasonable price?

You might find a "used" one via eBay, but will it work?

Instead, access and get a genuine HP replacement part, and then find an HP-authorized technician to disassemble your laptop, remove the motherboard, install the replacement, and "test" the computer.

have a pavilion dv9208nr. Same problem. They "fixed" the motherboard 2 1/2 years ago with the same p/n motherboard knowing it would go out again. When I saw the service enhancement I also called and was given the same **** that you got. To fix it would cost me $366, to just buy the MB and fix myself would cost $399??? Get a MB from They have the one for this computer for $140. HP is just a rip off company. I will also never buy ANYTHING hp(am a manager for hotel- 3 printers and computers plus other assorted gadgets). Hope this helps.

when battery is in if laptop shows charging (charging light blinking on laptop) then battery is faulty.
but charging not shows properly then motherboard is faulty.

The common failure on the DV6 line is the power flex cable goes bad. If you can power the unit on by pressing the Quickplay button on the keyboard cover (icon looks like a circular arrow), then your prob is resolved by a simple cable (that HP doesnt sell individually :/ ). If you still have no power to the unit, your next likely candidate for failure is the dc harness (percentage-wise unlikely, but part of the troubleshooting process), or the mlb (systemboard). 10bucks on the flex cable ;) -Sy

I cant install hp laser jet 1018 on this board

Hi h_kanani1366,

It doesn't sound like your problem is with the printer, it sounds like your problem is with the USB drivers for the motherboard. Look in Control Panel and click on System, then click on the Tab that's says Hardware, From there click on Hardware Devices, and when it opens look down on the Systems configuration area and look for a ! in a triangle. If you find one then the problem is the driver. You'll need to go to the manufacturer's site for that Motherboard and download a new USB controller driver, or sometimes there call Chipsets drivers. And that should fix your USB port, if the drivers aren't the problem, then could have a faulty motherboard. Try putting something else that you knows works into that same USB port to see if you get the same response. That will let you know if it's the motherboard, or it could be the Printer or the Cable that your using to connect to.

That's it my friend, there can be no other reasons I can think of.

Good Luck, and don't forget to leave a rating based on my solution.

Thanks Mark

I've had the same problem.

Remove the battery & power cord.

plug in the power cord but leave out the battery
