Is there an onboard video to this motherboard? If so hook up your monitor to that first and go into the BIOS to disable the onboard so when you restart it should go to your PCI Video card.

Hi I have a supermicro x8sti Server Board inside

Basically you have two choices for installation of video card:
1. To purchase small form factor PCIe card suitable for installation on 1U server chasis or
2. Purchase PCI express riser card and to install most full-sized PCI Express cards (Check this link for PCI Riser )

It looks like the video plug is built into the MB if this is bad can a plug in video card be used?.

Hi Rich,

Yes a plug in video card, called a PCI-Express display card, can be plugged into your main board.
On your particular model I understand that there is a setting in the BIOS setup whereby you have to change it from on-board display to PCI display if adding the plug in card.

Best wishes,

My display is white. I have a pci express slot open can I add a pci express video card to solve the problem?

The monitor may be faulty and not the video card, try a different monitor first to determine if the video card is faulty.
If the video card is faulty then install a video card in the PCI express expansion slot. You may have to turn off the on-board video card in the BIOS.

What type of video card can I use on this motherboard? D945GZIS AGP? PCI? PCI EXPRESS?

Your MoBo has (1) of each PCI Express x1 & and PCI Express x16 slots, and (2) standard PCI slots. There are NO AGP bus slots on this board. You'd want to use buy a PCI Express x16 video card instead of a PCI video card due to the better performance offered by the PCI Express cards.

The full details of your motherboard are below:

How will you absorved no display

I have looked at a PDF of your manual, but it did not give the BIOS (Basic Input Output) type. I did see a screen shot referencing Phoenix-Award BIOS, so I will give you the video adaptor error for both BIOS manufactures.
Award - You will hear one long beep and two short beeps from the speaker, which is a video adaptor error.
Phoenix - You will hear three beeps pause, four beeps pause and one beep from the speaker, which is a video adaptor error.
If you hear no beeps at all or another sequence of beeps from your speaker it could be another problem.
You can install a PCI Express video card in your computers PCI Express slot to test your on-board video.

I think graphics card is shot in my Gateway GT 5408 PC nothing but black screen.Hard drive seems to be working.I was going to replace card but the one in computer is intergrated on mother board.

Looks like your PC has PCI Express slots, one x16 and x1. So you can get a new PCI Express video card which should improve overall performance, especially gaming. It will also free up some system memory that has been shared with your on-board video. You'll have to go to BIOS and change the "Initial Display" setting and/or turn off the on-board video. I'm using the ATI Radeon HD 4350 and have no complaints.

My biostar g31 -m7 te motherboard does not boot when i try to add a msi rx800 pcie video card,,sometimes i get a overclock fail message after i remove the card and reboot,,,how do i get this card to work...

Turn the computer off.
Remove the PCI-E video-card.
Boot the computer.
Press DEL to "enter BIOS setup".
Disable the "onboard video" adapter,
or set the highest video-priority to be the PCI-E slot.
Save settings, but do not "exit" from BIOS setup.
Turn the computer off.
Install the PCI-E video-card.
Disconnect the video-cable from the onboard VGA-port,
and connect the video-cable to the new video-card.
Turn the computer on, and the video-output through the new video-card should be displayed on your monitor.

Graphics Cards causes computer to not display

Hi there.
I'm working on the assumption that the graphics card is a PCI Express card.
Remember that if you are swapping from on-board graphics to a card you have to go into the BIOS and tell the machine that the primary graphics adapter is AGP/PCI Express.
Plug the VGA cable into the on-board graphics port, start the computer and enter the BIOS, tell the computer to use the AGP/PCI card as primary, press F10, save the changes and exit the bios.
The computer will try and restart so let it boot to post and turn it off, then put in your card and try to boot again.
Please post back if you need more help or advice.

Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!
