Re: charcoal filter

If you look on top of the microwave, at the top there are two screws. undo the screws and the black plastic grill slides to the side and pops off. the charcol filter then slides in to the center area.hope this helps.

Re: charcoal filter

Sami...most of these units use a spring on the inside of the micro to hold the filter frame in place. Push back on the filter against the spring and then tilt it out.

Re: charcoal filter

After you take the two screws out you have to slide the grill to the left to clear the door.

My Samsung SMH7178STD gives me an error condition that flashes -SE- and beeps every so often but i can not get rid of the error condition. I have unplugged to perhaps reset it but it still flashes the same...

Hello :

SE error means you have a shorted keypad . If you couldn't find parts , then It will be cheaper to replace the unit or have new one .

good luck .

Does this microwave oven use charcoal filters

The only time your microwave will use a charcoal filter is if it is mounted over the stove, as a microhood, and discharges into the room, rather than up a stack. If yours is set up as a hood, you'll have the woven grease traps underneath, and the filter will be behind the upper grille.

Where is the charcoal filter?

There is no charcoal filter unless you replaced the standard filter with a carcoal filter. Also, it may have m=been changed to a charcoal filter if the unit was alterd during installation as a re-circulating vent, not vented to the outside via the roof or wall.

The filter (Charcoal or not) is on the bottom of the unit. Put your head under the microwave and look up, there it is.

Wrong Grease Filter for Sharp R-1870 Microwave

I also have a Sharp over the Range Microwave oven that requires a charcoal filter. But my diagram shows that the charcoal filter goes behind the slotted panel at the top of the microwave. To reach the filter, you must remove a screw on the top edge of the microwave. This allows the panel to come off. Your charcoal filter goes there. Since your oven is new, you do not need to change this filter yet because it's not dirty. I would save it for future use.
According to my book, there are two kinds of filters with this oven. The charcoal filter is the one behind the front panel. The Grease filters ARE the two metal mesh ones. They can be cleaned with hot soapy water, or I put mine in the dishwasher.

Microwave make a deep humming sound ,does not heat and the circuit breaks

I would say your magnetron has failed.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If it's within the one-year time frame, the repairs should be free.

SMH7178STD Not working properly

E4 means your thermistor (temperature sensor) is shorted or caked with grease, making it look shorted.

Normally you can get Samsung parts here:

But that part does not show up on a search so you'll probably have to call them:
