Question about Canon SPEEDLITE 580EX TTL Flash
It wont power up at all. I have tried batteries, and my tubo power pack, and it will do nothing.
1 - Check the battery contact and make sure the batteries in the flash are good.
2 - check the plug for the turbo, make sure it is not damaged, as well as, the high voltage plug on the 580 flash. If those contacts look dirty or mushroom shaped, you will nee the flash repaired.
3 - obviously make sure the turbo is charged

Just had the same problem.
I think the battery compartment door moves the batteries upon closing so that a good contact is lost.
I am using fresh alkaline AA's
I tested each battery & they are 100% charged at 1.5v.
I tried several times but nothing on the display.
Heres how I fixed it...
I connected the speedlite onto the shoe of my camera body.
Then inserted the batteries whilst the camera & speedlite in upright position. This seems to put some gravity on the batteries, whilst closing the battery door attempts to defy gravity.
Hey Presto - It's now working fine.
