One snowy channel can be caused by lots of issues, if it is on all tv's in your house, then there is a possibility that you have moisture in your "drop" line to the house or something is wrong in the trasmission lines to your home, but this will usually affect multiple channels in the same freqency range.

If it is only on 1 tv, then you may have a bad jumper cable from wall to tv, or vcr to tv ect.. you may have a bad connector on the feed cable or jumper cables, you may have a bad splitter partially blocking that frequency, or a bad "barrel" / wall plate partially blocking that frequency, the tuner in the tv may be going bad.

My advice is if it is only on 1 tv then move that tv to another room where the channel is fine... see if the problem follows the tv. if it does then you know you have a issue with the tv, if not then move another tv into the room with the problem and see if it still exists. If so start replacing jumper wires 1 by 1 making sure everything is hand tight.

If the problem is in the entire home, then i would locate the main cable input to your home on the outside of your home, dissconnect it from it's ground block / splitter and take a tv outside with an extention cord.. plug it directly into the tv.. if you still have the problem on that channel then you can call your cable company armed with that information. And have them send a tech out.

Good luck.

Cant get channels even after channel scan. all snowy screens except channel 3 which is fish swimming around.

Go in the menu and make sure the antenna setting is set to AIR and not CABLE before you start the scan. If that doesn't fix your problem then something with the main board is the problem

Snowy picture

The remote doesn't effect the channels, I would say you have poor signal or interference from another device nearby.

Tuner is out. Menu works, but TV has a snowy picture.

This is the best solution for your problem as a 40 year experience with wires etc. Go to the source of your cable signal connector . Open it and clean the terminals with emery paper , sand the end of the cable shiny clean from corrosion , get a new barrel connectors with gold terminals if possible lengthen the ends of the cable , insert and tighten good, use thick rg-16 or rg 40 cable with good insulation ends crimped professionally with a crimpier or buy ready made , not from dollar store. Get a gold plated professional splitter if you need one or two , it will cost about 15 or more each . Make the cable runs as short as possible, using the thick good cables. If needed get a signal magnifier. From radio shack or the source etc. Connect them good and tight . Ground the splitters . Problem solved , you will get crystal clear channel 2 to 7 including 3 and 4 . Isolate the TV cable from other cables and power wires. Vitally

Sony SLV-640HF Problem

I would be inclined to say that there are only two likely problems that you may be encountering. Either you are getting a bad signal feed, or the connectors on the cable are getting old and need replaced. The connection to the cable can break down over time, especially if they have been connected and reconnected several times. I cannot rule out problems caused by the transition to DTV, but that doesnt seem likely if there are only a few channels affected. As far as "selective failure" of the VCR's built-in tuner, I would say that that is also a very unlikely source for the problem If the tuning components inside the tuner had gone out, I would expect to see a problem on all channels watched through the system. If you are having this problem on all channels of the sony, then the tuner could surely be the problem, but if you haven't used it much that would indicate a problem at manufacturing, however since at least one of the machines is working fine on some channels and not on all of them, I would suspect the connections or the signal from your cable company. Contact them first ands see if they are having signal issues, if not try replacing your connectors.

Snowy picture on VCR with only certain channels

In all likelyhood, you have a bad ground somewhere in the cable. Try other channels through the VCR. If the ground is the problem, there will be a cluster of channels that are snowy with the rest being clear. Check the cable itself and all of the connectors along it.

If the cable and connectors are good, the tuner or power supply of the VCR could be faulty and cause this as well.

Snowy picture

Usually a snowy picture means that you have a bad ground connection. You should see that some channels are beter than others. Verify that the cable connection is good. Try a different cable if you can. If that has no effect, than we need to start looking at the tuner itself. If you can change channels but just have a poor picture, chances are that a resolder of the tuner section will resolve the problem.

1996 RCA Color TV model G27720tn

If you are on cable, first run the cable wire from the wall directly to the TV, eliminating any cable box and/or VCR. If channel 2 is snowy but the rest (especially 3-6) are clear, it is most certainly a cable problem and not a TV problem. The TV uses the exact same circuits for channel 2 to 6 (VHF-LOW) so if the tuner was bad and 2 was snowy, 3, 4, 5 and 6 would be snowy too. Bring a second TV into that room, disconnect the cable wire from the RCA and connect it to the second TV. Is channel 2 on the second TV as snowy as it was on the RCA?

I have the 13 inch and...

If you get channels 2 to 13 nice and clear but the rest are snowy, it means that the TV is set to the broadcast channels, which means that for the channels above 13 it is tuning in the old-fashioned UHF channels. If the TV is set to the cable mode then it tunes in cable channels above 13. To do this, enter the menu and navigate to the tuner settings, set the tuner to standard cable and then do the autoprogram, and the tuner's memory will be set for your cable system.
