If the satellite dish option is inactive or "greyed out", then you may have two menu buttons on your remote. I have 4 different Samsung TVs ranging from 8 years to 2 months old and they all have slightly different remote control/menu layouts. One in particular has a general Menu button, which deals with the Analogue stuff (now defunct in my area as the digital switch over is complete) and stuff like picture/sound settings. This does have a satellite dish option that no longer does anything as there are no analogue signals in my area any more. There is also a "DTV Menu" button which then deals with the digital stuff such as auto tuning.

Samsung tellys top level menus should have a choice of four or five sub-menus.

The one you want is that represented by a picture of a satelite dish / antenna. Dont worry if you dont get your TV via satelite, this is just the symbol they use to denote the tuning options.

Down arrow to the satelite dish sub-option and select enter. This should then give you several more options, one of which is Tuning, Select this and then select Auto Tune, then press enter and the set will completely retune itself.

If youre asking this as a result of today's Freeview retune, then you may well end up with some "dummy" channels - i.e. they either have nothing at all displayed or a message telling you the channel has moved - or some of the channels have an incorrect name. I'm hoping that now the retune has happened, in the near future these dummys or errors will be fixed.

Some Samsung TV's dont have a "tuning" sub-menu but "Channel(s)". Selecting this will then give the Auto Tune option.

How do you tune TV

A full retune should only takes a few minutes and can be done with your remote control. Here are some guidelines for how to do it, but bear in mind every model of digital TV or box will be a little bit different.
  • Make sure your Freeview TV or box is on and in digital mode, usually by pressing the DTV or digital button on your remote. Then press 'menu'.
  • Select the 'set up' or 'installation' option. If you see picture icons, select the tool box, satellite dish or spanner. If you are prompted for a code, try 0000 or 1234.
  • Select the full retune option. This is sometimes called 'first time installation', 'factory reset', 'default settings' or 'shipping conditions'. Do not select 'channel update' or 'add channels'.
  • Press 'OK' if your equipment asks if you want to delete all your channels. Don't worry this is normal
  • Channels will automatically be installed. This may take a few minutes and your equipment may shut down and restart
  • In some cases, where transmitter signals overlap, it may be necessary to carry out a manual retune.
Note: Depending on your TV equipment, you may need to update your favourites list following a retune. Some digital recorders may require scheduled recordings to be reset.

How to retrieve lost channels on digital tv

To restore missing channels, you need to retune your digital receiver (box or TV).

The retuning process runs a scan and finds all the available channels. Your box may have an Add New Channels option that you can use, but this may not pick up other changes such as channels being moved to a different multiplex or removed altogether.
How to retune
  1. Switch on your digital box and/or TV.
  2. Press Menu on the remote control.
  3. Select the Setup or Installation option.
  4. Select the 'First time installation' option (sometimes called 'Factory reset', 'Full retune' or 'Default settings').
  5. Press OK if your equipment asks if you want to delete all your channels. Don't worry, this is normal.
  6. If you are prompted for a code, try 0000 or 1234.
  7. Channels will be automatically installed. This may take a few minutes and your equipment may shut down and restart.
  8. After retuning, you will have to redo your Favourites list and other settings. If you retune a digital TV recorder, you also should reset future recordings.

I cannot retune my samsung tv- model no LE37C53CF1W- COULD YOU ADVISE HOW TO RETUNE, mANY THANKS, Jim Lauder

Hi,Does the icon look like a large satellite dish?
Make sure your TV is on "TV" and not "DTV" before retuning.

To re-tune analogue channels:

I have a Samsung TV and that icon is not accessible from the menu if i am watching the tv on the digital option of my remote. You have to switch your tv to the "tv" option on your remote and you will be able to access the icon from your menu.
(on your remote, you should have a button with TV/DTV on it)

To re-tune analogue channels, if you want to re-tune digital channels, then look for the "D MENU" button on your remote. Press this then scroll down to the icon that looks like a large satellite and then on "Auto Store" This will re-tune your digital channels :0)

Take care and hope it helped.
