Question about Wein AS-500 Air Purifier

Open Question

How do I calculate impedance in a four wire test. i.e. I am passing a 1 amp (A.C.) current through 2 x 10 ohm resistors. One of the resistors is connected in paralel with a switch. When the switch is closed it shorts the resistor causing a voltage drop accros this resistor. The switch can be coated with certain contaminants and it is the impedance of these contaminats I am trying to measure. I measure the voltage accross the two resistors and the current phaze difference between them. How can I use this data to calculate the impedance of the contaminant?

Where can I get a new electric cord

What are you looking for? If is just for house current for average use go to any well known hardware or places like Lowes or Home Depot or Sears..ask for or look 14 gauge on the tag..if for higher amp use such as portable air conditioners and 15--3000 watt portable heaters ask or look for 12 gauge wire..that should handle all your needs..good luck...

Wt is impedence

Electrical impedance, or simply impedance, describes a measure of opposition to alternating current (AC). Electrical impedance extends the concept of resistance to AC circuits, describing not only the relative amplitudes of the voltage and current, but also the relative phases. When the circuit is driven with direct current (DC) there is no distinction between impedance and resistance; the latter can be thought of as impedance with zero phase angle.

IonizAir P4620 Air Purifier: R1 is fried. What do I replace it with?...

R1 is a 5 ohm resister. 1/2 watt was used. If it fried go to a higher power rating. It limits the current to the high voltage transformer.

Zippo power

an easy way too tell is to use a 9 volt batt and use two peicses of wire and touch across the fuse if it sparks the fuse is good or you can go buy a cheep ohm metter and use it to test them thats the easer way

Flair Fan

OK, good news and bad. Check the actual fan speed potentiometer with a ohmmeter. There are only two outs from the pot itself to the little circuit board that its attached too. The pot is 75K so make sure your ohmmeter is in the right range setting. With the meter connected, turn the dial and make sure it goes from 0 to between 70K and 75K ohms. If it doesnt or its all over the board, then the pot is the problem. Now I can't seem to find one that is a direct replacement, 75K is an oddball. I didn't un-solder mine from the board. If yours is bad, unsolder it and look on the back for the manufacturers part number, google that with the p/n as the search terms.

The circuit for the fan is not tied to the sanatize button. The circuit is relatively small, with two film capacitors, two resistors, a diode, and a triac. The circuit is on the board located underneath the unit. The circuit is located right next to the fan pot inputs on the main board. Its about 1" square with the "fan pot" inputs at the bottom left corner, if reading labels right-side-up. Resistors are almost indestructable so it is probably not them. I would lean towards the triac, diode, or caps. Look at the components and the solder connects in that circuit. If anything looks burned or black, or a solder joint looks like it has gotten too hot, that component is probably the problem. If its not the pot, which more likely than not it probably is, then I would lean towards the triac or diode. Here is the triac p/n:511-BTB06-600T. The diode I would also have to unsolder to access the part number, or I would list that as well.

I would start at the pot. That would be my guess as to what went bad. It could also be a bad solder joint on the small board the pot is soldered on to. Also check and clean the 1/4" disconnect terminals on the fan motor itself. For mine, I just cut off the old female terminals on the wires and crimped on new ones.
Hope this can give some help.

Ionic Breeze GP S1830 - makes a sizzeling noise

Funny you should post this when you did as I just finished reassembling my S1730.
Mine was making very loud noise, arcing violently, smoking slightly and would give a good shock when you touched the plastic covers(yes dirty plastic will conduct electric current).

1. Unplug the unit
2. Take the plastic covers off, front has four screws and back has snap at bottom, both slide up when loose.
3. Wash the plastic covers
4. take the light out and clean it with windex
5. Vacuum the inside, be careful of the two corona wires
6. Find the bead on each corona wire and while turning them slight so the edges scrapes the wire, move them back and forth to scrap the white power off the wires
7. scrape the cone shape plastic that the corona wires runs into, this build up is the primary culprit of the arcing which is the noise you hear. be careful of the corona wires again. I used an exacto knife and gently scraped it, sandpaper has been suggested elsewhere, once done scrapping, wipe down to clean any residue. The top cones are only part accessible, after cleaning mine the noise still persisted but acceptably lower than before. I think if you completely take apart the unit you can clean this cones better.
8. Reassembly is the same is opposite of disassembling.

Hopes this helps you.

Fan motor changes speeds on its own.

The control component or the control circuit for the fan can be causing the speed variation, or the bearings on the thing can be wearing (or contaminated) with the same result. If you can make a test bench, look (feel with a test pad, really) for drive transistors that get hotter than they should or an inconstant power resistor or shunt.

Kenmore ac2044-1 shuts off

Take Cell out and examine closely with flashlight for debris and bent aluminum cell plates or ionizing wires.

Make sure all plates are more or less clear of one an other with fairly even spacing between them and no kinks on their edges.

If any are to close together it will cause a cell overload that will cause the Clean Cell to display and or completely turn unit off all together.
