Question about Sierra Online, Inc. You Don'T Know Jack Mock 2 for PlayStation 1

1 Answer

I have problems opening up pdf documents sent through email. I can save them but cannot open them. I used to be able to only a few months ago. What went wrong? I have an old laptop with Windows98. Is that the problem? Can I send you some of my urgent pdf documents (that I need to open up asap) to convert in a format I can use? Help!! Thanks in advance for your help. Sylviane, in Winnipeg, MB.

Why can't I get a pdf file that is sent to me to properly open. It's all garbled.

Hi, First, Try saving the file to your documents. Then try opening it.
If it doesn't. Right click and select in the list adobe reader which you should have already installed. This should work for your system.
Good luck.

Tip

Reduce the file size of a PDF file

Sometimes when we scan a document and the output file is PDF the file size is too big which is very difficult to send as an email attachment. This also happens when you convert word documents into PDF format.

This guide assumes that Adobe Acrobat Professional or Standard is already installed on your computer for PDF conversion.

On your current PDF File click on File then select Print

On the Print window select Adobe PDF as the Printer Name then click on the Properties Tab

On the PDF Document Properties Window under Default Settings drop down, select Smallest File Size.

Click on OK on all open windows. This will start the conversion process. When it's finished this will prompt you to save the file. It is advisable to save the file in a different file name rather than replacing the original copy.

After the conversion you may compare the file size of the original file and the reduced PDF file. The reduced file can now be sent on email attachments easily.

Word docs sent as email attachments are arriving in my inbox as png files - useless. How do I change this please

.PNG stands for "Portable Network Graphics". Sounds like the sender may have scanned the document, and sent the scanned document to you? Scans will come out as either .png, .jpg, or .pdf formats.

If the file is a .png, you won't be able to edit in MS Word.

Another thing to check - Make sure when you are working on a Word Document, you are saving it as a .doc file.

  • Open MS Word Document
  • Do your editing
  • Click on the "Fille" button, and then select "save as" option
  • In the window that appears, next to the "save as type" wording click on the down triangle to see different formats to save. Select ".doc"
Bottom line... tell whomever is sending the emails with attachments, to send you the MS Word file, not a scanned file.

Format change

Scan the document and save it.
Lift the lid on your scanner lay the photo face down then select scan document/photo it will ask what format you want to scan it then it will ask where you want to save it browse select the file/folder where you want to save it (my pictures) most common
you can send an attachment to a company by an email
Open up your new email type in the adress then you should see attachment depending on which email you are using select attachment then you will open up a browse window navigate to your
document / attachment select it you might have to wait a few seconds for it to load as an attachment then click send.

I first scanned all the docs into the picture gallery. My professor needs them all in pdf format. How? I've got an HP Pavilion laptop. My professor's waiting for me to call her tonight when...

PDF format means legal form which is handled in Adobe Acrobat. You said you scanned your docs into the picture gallery, and I am hoping that you left them in the default format that your scanner uses instead of changing them to a picture format (like JPEG, or TIFF) or this may be too complicated to assist via email.

If you do not have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat & Adobe Reader, do a search on the internet and download then install them. They are free. Once the programs are installed, open Adobe Acrobat and click on "file" at the top left side of the screen and try and open one of the documents you saved in the picture gallery in the acrobate program. If they are compatible, all you have to do is rename and save the document in Adobe. To save it, after you have opened it in Adobe - click on file and then "save a copy" or "save as" and choose whatever the documents name is and .pdf at the end (save to a pdf format) and then you are done.

If the file format of the documents are not compatible and will not open and easily save in PDF format using the Acrobat, then I would suggest asking your teacher for an extension.

Good luck!

Hi,
Because Widows 98 is such an outdated operating system you are fairly limited to what you can do.

If the OS will let you try updating Adobe reader to the latest version. You can download it free from Adobe here >>>>>>>>>>

http://get.adobe.com/reader/

Once downloaded execute the program and keep your fingers crossed that it installs. If it does your all good and you will be able to open the newer pdf files.
If it doesn't then your in a bit of a pickle. I could help you convert a pdf to another format but i would need to know what type you would require.

Try to update Adobe reader first and see how you get on.

May i also suggest that you do away with 98 and upgrade to an XP machine as there is far more support for the XP operating system.

Please let me know how you get on.

Good luck.

Cannot open pdf attchment

I had the same problem, and I solved it the following way.

The problem is that as soon as the temporary folder contains more than 100 "Document.pdf" (Document.pdf",Document(1).pdf",Document(2).pdf" etc...) it will not allow you to open anymore.
The only way around is to go in the temporary folder and delete one or more "Document.pdf"

To open the Temporary folder:

-open any pdf document that does not have this problem,
-Go to File and then to Save As.

Directly from there you can delete the "Document.pdf

You will then be able to open the Digital Sender scanned pdf document.
