Question about Western Digital Passport WDXML800UE (WDXML800UETE) 80 GB Hard Drive

400 Gig Western Digital My Passport not recognized

Hey,

I looked at the similiar problems, but the solutions never helped me and my problem is a little bit different.
Ive used my HD for over a year now without problems. But when i tried to open a video file that was on my HD, my PC crashed. When i restarted it again It didnt properly boot up until i unpluged my HD and Vista was Up Immediately. After vista was completely booted up i replugged my HD, however it did not recognise it correctly on My computer, it only said: "Local Disk E:"(normally it says My passport) and when i tried to click it my Pc freezes....then again when i unplug the HD everything is fine again. Weirdly the HD is correctly detected in the Device Manager.
As i mentioned i have Vista (32 bit)...
Thanks in advance!

Delete that video in other pc's with deepfreeze to keep away from system failure. You need to scan your passport, vista is more tricky than xp anything about viruses will cause them to freeze or to reboot on their own to prevent system failure.

Did it ever recognize it?

Connect the Passport to a different (desktop) computer.
If it still is not recognized, then the Passport has a problem.

My computer wont recognize the drive or allow me to reformat my passport.

Try downloading the device driver from western digital site for your respective OS. And try formatting it with the western digital inbuilt software, which works great.

Xp not recognizing my 250gb WD passport

The Western Digital My Passport line, besides the Essential Series, is originally formated for a Mac (in the HFS+ format) and as such cannot be read by Windows PCs. You can either get a program to read the External such as Macdrive, or format it to NTFS or FAT32; formats that are readable by Windows. I would recommend formatting it to NTFS, because you can only transfer up to 4 Gigabyte files to FAT32, while NTFS is nearly limitless.

My computer does not recognize my WD external drive

You've tried different USB cables; so, that cannot be the problem.

You've tried connecting to different computers; so, the problem is _not_ your computer.

What's left is "inside" the case:
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter,
* the disk-drive.

Open the case, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" drive to some computer.
If it is detected, then the USB-to-disk-drive adapter that has failed.
If it not detected, then the disk-drive itself has failed.

FInd the serial-number on the Western Digital disk-drive, and enter it onto Western Digital's web-site, on the "check-warranty" page. If it's older than 3 years, the warranty probably has expired, unless you were "lucky" and got a 5-year warranty.

Western Digital has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- just buy a new Passport through their web-site, and cite the serial-number, and you'll get a significant discount on _their_ price (could be higher than your local retail computer-store) for a new (probably larger) Passport.

My MAC won't recognize my WD 80 GIg External HD

Some computers (especially Mac laptops) don't send enough power through the USB port to power a passport, so you need to get an extra power cord, one that combines 2 USB ports into one to get a little extra juice. Wish I could give you a website where you can buy that extra cord but I am currently looking for one myself at this moment in time.

Could be a hard drive logic board issue since the computer bios recognizes the drive but the computer operating system does not. Not good.

Western digital passport essential harddrive 250 gig

It assumes that the drive C is the drive you booted from or the "root" drive. You must make it something other than "C". Try putting in a camera card, hooking up an external drive or other device that the computer makes drive "C" THEN hook up your passport. It will be "D" or "G" or something other than "C" and it will work.

Dropped a WD passport drive, now it won't load. HELP!

Unfortunately, these drives are not made to be dropped.

It sounds like it was damaged by the drop which could have rendered the read/write heads inoperable or mis-aligned.

Contact Western Digital for a warranty replacement.
