Re: Reinstall of windows xp

This won't have anything to do with the monitor in the control panel, you should be looking at "Sounds and Audio Devices". Did the sound ever work?

Enable Monitor Speakers
Most Windows operating systems are not set up by default to run sound through a monitor's speakers. Instead, the sound device needs to be manually set to "Monitor Speakers" in the Sound section of the control panel.

Open the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel."
Double-click the "Sound" icon in the control panel to bring up the Sound dialog box.
You may need to select "Hardware and Sound" prior to this, depending on which control panel view you are using.

Click the "Playback" tab, then right-click in the Devices window and select "Show Disabled Devices."
Click on your monitor speakers and click the "Properties" button.
Click the "Device Usage" drop-down menu and select "Use This Device (Enable)." This will enable your monitor speakers.

Re-loaded my xp os, can't get my monitor back to 1280x1024, can't seem to find a driver on line... also have lost my speakers somehow?

You need to install the correct video card driver and sound card driver when you reinstall the XP, it is using Microsoft generic vidoe card driver right now, and it did not install the sound card driver either.

This monitor doesn't have built-in speakers. You'll have to hook up separate speakers to the audio output jack on your computer with this one.
