It means that your computer is missing a file that windows xp needs to run boot properly or is missing a program that your home edition xp needs. Repairing the OS or windows xp home edition by means of your xp instalation cd will do the job. Just insert your xp installation disk to your cd/dvd rom and select install windows xp home edition. Then select ( repair ), and so on let it finish repairing . Once your system rebooted, let it run without pressing enter or space bar. Just watch and let your computer do the job. This will probably solve your boot problem. But before doing all of this, please check your IDE or SATA cable and also the power cable that is connected to your hard drive. Try to unplug and plug again to ensure a good connection. If this won't work, you can proceed repairing Your windows xp installation or reinstalling a new xp operating system. Have a nice day and i hope i was in any help to you friend.

Lost product key for xp home

The only thing you can really do is purchase a new Product key from Microsoft. I am sure that if you search the internet you could find a product key, but given that it is illegal I wouldn't suggest it.

Description
Windows XP was designed to make it simpler to identify content on CDs or DVDs, and assist in launching the correct program to open or view the files. For example, insert a movie DVD and Windows XP should show options for programs that can play a DVD. Unfortunately things can go wrong - settings get altered and the autorun no longer wants to be your friend. This free tool can help diagnose and repair autorun problems in XP. It is a tiny download and doesn't require installation. Simply double-click the exe file, click a few buttons (OK, some options are a little cryptic) and you can change or repair your Windows XP autorun options.

Storage devices won't autostart

I have the opposite problem - I can't stop them!
  1. Open Windows Explorer by pressing the Windows + "e" key.

  2. Right-click the desired CD-ROM and select Properties from the menu.

  3. Select the AutoPlay tab.

  4. Select each item from the pulldown list and for the Action to perform, select "Take no action" to disable autorun, or pick the apporpriate action to take if enabling autorun.

  5. Select OK.

My computer does not have a AutoPlay feature in it so I can insert and run my Cd-ROM PC games. It must have come with one but I can't find it.

Enabling AutoPlay on a data and audio CD (Windows XP)
  1. Open My Computer or Explorer
  2. Highlight the CD-ROM drive, right-click the CD-ROM drive and click properties.
  3. Click the AutoPlay tab. Within this section you will be able to specify all Windows AutoPlay features.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Couldn't open the hard Drive folders....

hi sir,

i think you have an autorun.inf file residing at your local drives. this probably infected by a virus.

go to control panel >folder option> click View> choose "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files, this will show hidden autorun.inf file. In your explorer, right click your local disk and click explore, this will show all your files and folders of your drive, navigate autorun.inf file, if found delete it.
note: it has an associated file called vbsscript file...if found also delete it..do the same with the other drives. empty recycle bin and restart.
