Question about Whirlpool Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifier will not automatically drain through hose bib

When I try to use the hose connection for the dehumidifiers to automatically drain into my sump pit, they do not and just fill up the buckets and shut off when they are full. How do I fix it so that they will drain themselves through the hose and not shut off?

SOURCE: Connecting a drain hose

Most units have a drain connection, either on the machine itself, or in the collection pail. These connections usually fit standard garden hoses.

SOURCE: Drain problem

I have the same problem and after talking (mostly waiting) with Fedders repair, I have been told how to solve the problem. Plug up the drain hole on the right side (the one not connected to the drain hose). The drain hole extends down about 5mm, outside measures 10mm and interior measures 7mm. They do come with a drain hold cover. Not a replaceable part with a number. Off to the hardware store.

SOURCE: Dehumidifier

Hey ya! To fix this u need to block that hose connection under the Dehumidifier. This will then re direct the flow to the Bucket collection mode. I have the same problem and resolved it this way after pullng mine apart. It looks like by default that hose connection at the bottom should have a plug/cap on it and after turning on ur dehumidifier this fills up then once full it starts to over flow into the bucket... Seems a strange design but thats how they have done it.

Hope this helps others.

SOURCE: Dehumidifier Error?

Same problem with Goldstar model DH404EY7 -- stop code 01 on startup, bucket full light blinks (drains to floor).

Replaced the main controller board to fix it.

For my model dehumidifer the part # is 6871A20888A, and cost $77.44 (not counting shipping) from Appliance Factory Parts. The Appliance Factory Parts web site also provides parts breakdown (exploded parts diagram) diagrams and service manuals in PDF form.

Whirlpool AD50USS Dehumidifier WILL NOT DRAIN THROUGH HOSE

I have a similar model. There are two drains, one for the hose and one directly into the bucket. The hose one is supposed to be lower, but I had to put a 3/8 inch block under the right side of the unit to get the water to favor the hose instead of the bucket. Another possibility is that the far end of the hose is higher than the near end. If you can't lower it, you can put the whole dehumidifier up on blocks. One other thing to check is that the hose has a rubber washer in it where it connects to the unit. Use a tissue to see if this connection is dry. If it leaks, it will just drip into the bucket.
Good luck!

Our new Santa-Fe Classic dehumidifier is leaking water from the bottom of the unit. It's also sending a small amount of water correctly through the tube for dispersal. We've only had it for two...

The classic model drains thru the clear hose using gravity. The drip pan in that unit is about 1/2 way up in the cabinet. Make sure the drain hose exits the unit and runs flat or downhill. If the drain hose is coiled vertically or run up hill causing water to trap within the hose it can cause water to back up in the dehumidifier drip pan and overflow causing your problem. If your drain is higher than the base of the dehumidifier, you can raise the dehumidifier or you can purchase a condensate pump kit that will allow the drain water to be pumped up to 15 feet above the dehumidifier.

The drain hose may have become disconnected from the drip pan as well. To check, turn off the humidistat to stop the dehumidifier from running. Next disconnect the cord from the power supply. Remove the six screws holding the cabinet side (with the label) from the cabinet and remove the cabinet side. The drain hose connects to a nipple on the bottom of the drip pan.

I need a part(s) which allows the water from the dehumidifier to drain into a hose which goes to a basement drain. What are the names of the parts and where can I order them?

Not knowing which brand and model number dehumidifier you have, makes telling you what parts you need difficult at best. Most dehumidifiers only require a garden hose section, no longer than 5 feet, that connects to rear of the unit. The connection will be a threaded male connection. It is plastic, so don't over tighten it and crack it. It will have a screw off cap, which must be removed to connect the hose.

Keep in mind, most dehumidifiers rely solely on gravity to drain the water thru a hose. So, the hose should slope down from the unit and straight over to the floor drain.

If the above didn't help you, get back to me with the brand and model number of your dehumidifier.

Thanks for choosing FixYa

I connected a hose to my dehumidifier to drain the water. The water is still going in the dehumidifiers tank. What else do I need to do?

Check the hose connection on the dehumidifier, as well as the hose for clogs. That is what usually happens when a hose is connected and it doesn't drain properly.

Also, the hose should be no more than 5 feet long and MUST slope downward to drain properly. As, the drain relies entirely on gravity. There is no pump.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

50 pint dehumidifier has drain hose connected but fills up the drain bucket and stops running....

safety switch is turning off the dehumidifier....you need to drain out the bucket more often....or put the drain hose into an actual drain....ive seen some people run a small plastic hose from the dehumidifier to the sump pump hole in their basement.

Why did my dehumidifier start draining into the bucket when I put the drain hoze? Previous to putting on the hoze it was draing out the back.

Check for crub which may be blocking the drain hose. Blow the hose out by connecting it to your outside garden hose and turning on the water full force. Then reattach it to your dehumidifier.
