TV went out and will not turn on

The tv was on and all of a suddon just turned black. The power light will stay on but turns red. The lamp light will also blink a while then it will go back to the red power button. Eventually all light on the front just go out and it shuts down. Is this the lamp? There was no warning. Is that typical?

Panasonic DLP TV Bulbs

Make sure its an original Osram or Philips bulb inside the housing. If its a cheap lamp it will act this way. If it is an original lamp, then you may have a power supply issue. It shouldn't affect your TV but you may want to try resetting the lamp timer by following the instructions that came with the lamp.

TY-LA1001 Timer reset

While pressing the VOL- button on the projection display, hold down the number 0 button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds.

Black Screen

It sounds as if the lamp has failed possibly due to a failed cooling fan (the fan should be the first thing to come on). here are the links to the user manual if you need it; and It may be worth trying to uninstall and reinstall the lamp, but usually these fail internally rather than having bad connections etc. It is often obvious when the lamp has gone from a visual inspection. If the lamp has failed, when you replace it, make sure the fan comes on - if not then turn off instantly and investigate further. One other possibility before buying a new lamp, is that the lamp compartment cover may not be properly fitted. This will interrupt the power, so I am assuming there is a microswitch or similar that the cover or the screws that hold it should contact. Possibility is that the cover is badly fitted, or a small piece of the cover has broken, which would normally contact the switch, or the switch is faulty - if you can see the switch then a continuity meter will easily test the switch. Also check that the lamp unit securing screws are properly tightened, they also may stop the TV powering on. Please ask again if you need more help with this, if you are unsure then a photo of the inside of the lamp compartment and the lamp itself may help :)

Sony KDF-46E2000 - Screen Goes Blank

You definitely have a bad lamp. Sony rates the lamp life at between 4000 and 8000 hours. There are 3 things that effect the lamp life, listed in order of importance:
1) number of times the lamp is turned on and off. Every time the lamp is first fired, it takes life off the lamp. Customers I see that turn the TV on in the morning, leave it on all day and then turn it off on the evening can get up to 12000 lamp hours
2) ventilation. Be sure you have at least 6 inches of open space all the way around the set and that the vents are clear of dust and debris.
3) power. If the power is interrupted when the set is on, there cannot be a proper cool down cycle. The fans will run after you turn the set off to properly cool it down, if the power is lost this cannot happen. If your power is unreliable, buy a small UPS to let the set finish a cool down cycle

Occasionally a lamp will faill before the average lamp time due to being defective. from your purchase date it sounds like you got about average lamp time. Be sure to purchase AN ORIGINAL SONY LAMP as a replacement, becuase the aftermarket lamps are bad news, Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!
