Vision M gracenote language problem with Vista, and software problem
I've had the Vision M for over a year, and have used a computer with Windows XP for ripping and transfering MP3 files, and Gracenote for getting the song info (artist name, song name, etc). I recently purchased a new PC with Windows VIsta. When Gracenote retrieves the song data, the language is in something like Korean or Japanese...not sure, but they are Asian characters, even though I have it configured for English. When it transfers onto the Zen Vision M, it's in English, but it would be real nice to be able to read the song info on the computer screen in English!
Also, the Creative software never shuts down properly on Vista...I have to use task manager to end it every time, and then I get that ugly message about how the software has stopped responding.

Hi, archos vision 1 player not recognized by the computer
This may be caused by one of the following: 1. Minimum system requirements were not met. 2. Corrupted drivers. 3. Computer restrictions. 4. Power issue.
To resolve this issue, try the following solutions:
SOLUTION 1 - For brand new player or first time connecting to this computer.
For Windows XP users: verify the following operating system requirements are met. - Windows XP SP2 or higher - Windows Media Player 10 or higher
Download and install the latest Windows Media Player if it's not installed.
For Windows Vista users: If the player is seen in My Computer when using MTP mode, but not showing in Windows Media Player. - Download the hotfix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939211. - Run the hotfix.
For MAC users, see archos vision 1 player not recognized by a MAC OS
NOTE: If you are trying to connect to a Computer at work that is part of a network, there may be user right restrictions that are set to disable access to new hardware or stop any program installations. You may need to check with your IT administrator to see if this is causing the problem.
SOLUTION 2 - Refresh the driver
STEP 1 - Connect the archos vision 1 player to the PC The screen on your player should turn on, show 'Connected' and indicate the battery charging or full. - If the player does not turn on try other USB ports or on another computer if one is readily available. Ensure you are connecting directly to the computer USB port and not to a USB hub. - If there is nothing showing on the screen and the player does show up in as a storage device in an explorer window, then the screen is just not working.
If you receive the error "USB Device Not Recognized" on the computer, the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.
STEP 2 - Check under Device Manager 1. Right-click My Computer, and select Manage. Image 2. Click Device Manager on the left pane. Image
NOTE: archos vision 1 Players can connect to your computer in MSC or MTP mode. Exceptions are archos vision 1 Connect and archos vision 1 Express which only use MTP mode. MTP mode is the recommended and default method for archos vision 1 Players when used with Windows OS.
The archos vision 1 player will show up on Device Manager's right pane as: 1. USB Mass Storage device (if the player is set to MSC) 2. Portable Device (if the player is set to MTP mode)
If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) beside the device, try to refresh the drivers.
STEP 3 - Refresh the drivers 1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall. 2. On the top menu, click Action then select Scan for hardware changes.
NOTE: If a device with yellow exclamation point (!) continually appears and disappears, then the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.
See if the Operating System on the computer matches
your installed software.
Get down on the support page and make a Manual Selection in the
second bar XP, Vista or whatever you are using and click SUBMIT.
The available downloads will change now. Next get the matching software for your PC.
Also check the system requirements by opening "Show Details"
in the suitable software.
hey.. i replied to another question like this before lol.. i think with some mp3's they will only recognise windows visa and not any other windows eg: windows xp or 2000.. i think it may be so everyone goes out and buys vista so they can use there ipods, mp3's n other devices
Luckily for me I have a laptop with Windows XP. I installed the Zen software and connected my external hard drive that has all my music on it and copied the music from the external drive to the Zen. Problem sovled, although I really would like to have the software work properly using Vista. For now the solution works.
First, you have to download a cd player software of some sort, i.e. itunes, wmp, or realplayer. Once it is downloaded on to the player, you can sync your iriver with the player and you will have fun music to listen to on your mp3 player:)
I had the Exact same problem and no one had a good solution, i only found one that finally worked after spending 4 freakin hours tryin to fix it. anyway here is the solution.
you need to use a computer that has Windows XP, then if the computer is running any version of Windows media player other than 10, roll back or upgrade to Media player 10. restart the computer.
Now, you need to download and run http://www.delldjsite.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=462 honestly i have no idea what it does. my guess is it reinstalles the USB ports but thats only a guess. but i was so frusterated by the time i found this solution that i was willing to try anything. so download this file, unpack it and run it. then it will ask you to restart. when your computer is restarted run the new firmware file ( i used 126.96.36.199) and it works.
