Question about Water Heaters

1 Answer

I have a Rheem Warrior Class Model 72-52-2 240/208 wattage, manufature date 9-2005 in a trailer house. The breaker keeps tripping. When I reset the breaker, it will heat for a minute and then trip again. Will a new heating element fix this? Thank you

Check where wires go into housing, look for a bare or nicked neutral (white) wire. GFCI's only trip when the neutral makes contact with ground.

The water heater breaker keeps tripping and I have to reset it to get hot water. It continues to be a problem, what should I do?

Thermostat could be bad causing the breaker to trip due to it being shorted. It's either your breaker or the thermostat, more than likely the upper thermostat is bad.

You need to first determine if the burners light or not.

As long as the unit wasn't run with a dry tank the unit should not have been affected by continuous water running, unless it got hot enough to damage the thermocoupler which is an easy replacement. That is the part that your pilot/ignitor warms so that the gas valve will open the gas line to the burners.

Before I spent the money on a new heater I would check reset to make sure it did not trip. I would also check element and make sure you are getting flow thru outlet and that it did not plug up with rust and mineral .
Depending on the water quality where you live I would expect to get at least ten years use out of a electric heater. Thank you.

Rheem warrior glass serial num-rh1098154699 model num-71-40d b That is all the information i collected off my hot water heater we have no hot water at all and i dont know how to fix this problem...

The label would also say if water heater is gas of electric.
That would be helpful information that could lead to troubleshooting.
Serial number tells us water heater was made on Nov 1998, which tells us the manual will not be on the Rheem website.

So if you have electric water heater, and no hot water.
There can be 4 causes.
1) Circuit breaker is not delivering 240 to water heater. Test top two screws on upper thermostat to see if tank has 240V.
2) ECO red reset button is tripped. Open top cover on tank and push reset button.
3) Upper thermostat is bad. Replace thermostat.

I have no hot water in my house. I have a Rheem model #82V52-2 with a 50 Gal tank, mfg date 11/2005. Please help I don't want to have to pay someone to come over. Thanks!

There are several possible points of failure in your electric water heater. The easiest to check requires no more than a look at your main electric panel and locating any tripped circuit breaker. If done properly, it should even be marked as 'Water Heater.'
These breakers are not immune to failure; they can trip for no reason if defective. If you find a tripped breaker which may have two breakers visibly mechanically connected, reset it by pushing it to the tripped end first and then to the 'On' position. If there are no faults in your heater elements or the breaker, you may be finished already.
The other failures would require that you obtain a multimeter so you can check continuity of several items. Such meters, most digital today, can be found at auto parts stores, Radio Shack and other electronics outlets. If you have a Harbor Freight Tools store in your area, you can buy them there for well under $10 US and the simplest will do the job. You shouldn't have to spend more than $20 US to buy a usable one and any of them are very useful for simple home and auto troubleshooting. They are also numerous on eBay:
