Re: avi file

You should have permission to delete the file. Sign in as administrator and it should work. Also, make sure that the file is not in use when you go yo delet it.

Unlock avi file

That depends on what kind of lock you are dealing with. If you are getting permission error messages, in the Finder, click on the file to select it, then go to the file menu and select Get Info (shortcuts: ctrl-click and select from the pop-up menu, click to select, then type <apple>-i). Make sure you have read permission for the file. In OS 10.5 and later, click the File Sharing and Permissions triangle to show that info, then click on the padlock below to unlock it (you'll need the administrator name and password). Now you can give the logged-in user permission to read the file.
Generally you need a third-party application to play a .avi file on the Mac. I've use VLC Player and the Flip4Mac plugin for Quicktime Player with decent results.
If you are trying to hack a DRM (Digitial Rights Media) lock on the file, I can't help you. There may be an anti-piracy key that goes with the file; Check the manual, wrapper or case that originally contained the file media.

My G3 1,5tb station does not show up on my iMac anymore. It used to work fine, without any problems and it has only been connected to my iMac. Now it does power up, but the station does not appear on my...

Check to make sure file sharing is still on at the G3. If it is running a Server app or OS X Server, make sure File Sharing Services is up and running.
Also, check the network connections on both computers. First, open the Network System Preferences pane on the G3 and write down its IP address (Note: you should have IP addresses showing on both computers, and if they use the same router subnet, the first three parts of the IP address should be identical and the last part should be different, but still between 0 and 255. If this is not so, you have a network problem between one computer and the router or other device that provides DHCP services.).
Next, on your iMac, open the Network Utility application (in Applications/Utilities). Click the Ping tab and type in the G3 IP address, then click the Ping button. If the network is good, you should get round-trip time statistics for each ping.
If the Ping test fails, then do the following steps to troubleshoot the network. Check to see if you have link lights on for both computers at the network switch, if not, check the network cable for the unlit port. If they are connected to different switches, also check the uplink port link lights on each switch. Testing a suspect connection is most simply done by trying a known good cable, a different switch port, or another computer with a known good network interface.

I need to unlock a iMac running OS 10.6.1

Step 1:

Turn off your iMac G5

Step 2:

Power it back on. Right when you hear the startup sound, hold down Command and S together. This will bring up a black and white terminal prompt.

Step 3:

If at this point, it asks for a password (firmware password), power back down the iMac, change the amount of RAM (remove one stick of RAM and leave the other in), turn the computer back on and when you hear the start up sound hold down Command + Option + P + R. Keep holding until it restarts again. Once it restarts again, let it boot up, then shut it down again and put the stick of RAM back in. This will reset the firmware password and should allow you to continue onto the next step.

Step 4:

Once you are successfully at the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing enter after each line.

mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now

Step 5:

That's it! Once you boot back up, you should have a brand new administrator account that you can use to access all files and remove other accounts.

Connection Doctor would help here, but unfortunately Apple did not add this feature until 10.4. :-(
If I understand your problem correctly, you can send mail successfully, but trying later to access those messages in your Sent mailbox results in this error message. If you are using an IMAP account, you may need to visit Preferences / Accounts / Mailbox Behaviors and uncheck the box for "Store sent messages on the server." If you are using a POP account, it's possible the mailbox (or a Mail preference file) is simply corrupt and will need to be deleted and recreated. Unfortunately, the Panther and Tiger mail systems are known to be susceptible to certain types of corruption.

You will need to change your administrator's password you can do this by putting in the system disk in the disk drive. Boot up using the c key. Once booted go up to the file menu and go to the reset password menu and reset your password. Hope this helps

Thanks for the additional information. This will help in troubleshooting this.

That is most likely why it isn't working. It is possible the driver disk you have simply doesn't have the 10.3.5 driver on it.

You can download the OS X drivers here:

Just choose "OS X" from the operating system options.

If further assistance is needed, please ask.
