Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Made funny noise; stopped to investigate; then wouldn't restart; followed directions below from FixYa and restarted. It finished the cycle, apparently correctly, except it left a little water in the tub. Also, continued to make a lot of noise--a loud motor hum/buzz or similar. Did not make this noise during dry cycle. Dishwasher is Kenmore Model 665; stock number 16839. Can you give continued diagnostic instructions? Appears there is a cracked washer under the lower wand assembly; the noise continues even when the assembly is removed. Just now restarted empty to observe cycle. The noise only came on this time during drain cycle. It did drain completely but had the buzzing sound throughout. this was solution FixYa sent 9/29. "Set the controls to off then power off at the mains for 30 mins and then power mains back on and run a drain program or a full wash program. If the water won?t drain away than the most likely problems are the door interlock switch is faulty, the drain water motor is faulty, there is a blockage in the drain outlet pipe or filter ? this will need unblocking, there is a blockage in the water pump ? this will need to be unblocked, the controller board is faulty ? but this generally shows an error code."

The solution was nearly correct. The person who answered only forgot to mention that water level and pressure switch must be tested. This can cause drain pump working longer than necessary and humming, and machine underfilling, which can cause noise from impeller. Switch is tested using a multimeter and ensuring that floater is not stuck.Water levele floating device is located inside the tub, on right hand side. Pressure switch is on drain line. If WL and pressure switch is OK you need to access the pump, undo the hose and check for blockage in there.
When controller board is faulty the machine does not cycle, I think the electronic control is ok.
Here water level: Switch, float and Float part 30, 31 , 32 on diagram. And Switch. pressure , part 52.

Below all diagrams for this model. Ensure that is matching your model number before purchasing, since I did not have complete model number I looked for the same model, but some part may be different.

when was it tested at oreillys? was it before it died and failed to restart? if so you could have more than one problem the scanned problem is definitely an O2 sensor but the failing to restart could be from many other reasons. replace the o2 sensor see if it refires. if it does not there are 3 basic things to follow when a vehicle fails to start. does it get a spark, does it get air and does it get fuel. figure out what it is not getting and investigate why and you will find your answer.

Keeps saying PAU

The PAU, or pause, error usually means that the washing machine cycle was interrupted and was not restarted properly. If you try to modify the cycle or start a new one before the first cycle is complete, the PAU error will appear on the display. If the washer was stopped midcycle and not restarted, the cycle must be canceled or completed before a new selection can be made. Push "Start/Pause" to allow the current cycle to finish before making a new selection, or push "Cancel" to stop the current cycle

My brand new Kenmore Elite Stainless steel 24" always displays 'Oversudsing'

Even though the dishwasher comes with detergent, doesn't mean its good. A lot of new dishwashers are very sensitive to soaps. I've found that cascade liquid works the best. Try getting Dishwasher magic and run it through a load with no dishes. Follow the directions on the bottle. You can pick some up at lowes or home depot.

Dryer noise sounds like bearing out or a roller is bad model # 417-98702891

my dryer makes a funny noise about 10 to 15 min. into cycle. then shuts off. if you try to restart will not restart unless you hold start button down. once you let go will stop. wait about an hour and dryer will run for another 10- 15 min and start process over again.

What does control lock mean?

This means that the machine will not respond to any controls and will have to finish its current programme completely before it will respond to any operator controls again. It is very useful to stop anyone changing the programme mid cycle. It also means that if the power is cut or you have a brown out that the machine will just carryon where it left off and finish the programme.

To unlock the Control Locked feature:

Press and hold the End Of Cycle Signal button for 3 seconds to turn this feature off.

When the machine is running and Control Locked light is on, the machine can be stopped by pressing the Pause/Cancel button, but cannot be restarted until the control is unlocked.

Frigidaire front loading washer stopped at rinse cycle. 3 beeps

When in doubt check the easiest thing to check. The pump can cause a number of errors to come up. Since the unit stopped in rinse I would start but checking to make sure there is nothing obstructing the pump before going to the expensive parts.
