I am trying to connect to xbox live through my WR850G router

When I run connect on my xbox I can make it through cableing, ip address and DNS, but when it gets to xbox live it will not connect. I have set the ip address as static aswell as the DNS. I have also set my IP as a DMZ and set routing for ports 88 and 3074.

It sounds to me like you need to open ports 88 through 3074 instead of just opening the two. So this way you open Port 88 to 3074. I can further assist you if you have the router info.

I can't connect to x-box live parties, i can't accept or send game or party invites

You have to set up your xbox to a static IP Address, as well as you have to set up a DMZ inside of your router to the same existing IP Address. So you are going to have to access your router menu find out your information such as dns address, default gateway address, as well as your main ip address. Then go into your xbox and set it up the same but notice you will have to have your IP address for the Xbox to be different than the main IP for the router IE.. Router main IP Address you will want your xbox IE or something along those lines, however the default gateway and dns numbers need to be the same. Hope this helps

My son's new Xbox Live cannot / will not connect with our wireless router, even though it recognizes it. I have a Belkin 802.11b

1) Get connected to belkin's wireless network or wired network
2) Once you get connected, it may not be able to go online on XBox Live
3) Go to any computer that is going online with the router
4) Type in in the address bar of your Internet explorer
5) This will open up router interface(here we have to do some settings)
6) In the left hand side column, click on FIREWALL.
7) Leave the password blank in login page and disable the FIREWALL. Click on Apply Changes.
8) Under FIREWALL(in the left hand side column), click on DMZ
9) Make a "check" on enable and under Private IP: Click on Apply Changes.
10) Now go to Xbox, under network settings, choose IP settings, and select manual configuration
11) Now select manual configuration for DNS settings.
Primary DNS:
Secondary DNS:
12) Restart both Belkin and Xbox
13) It should connect to XBox Live now...

Xbox can't find network on PC.

the other persons tip is trash mines better ;)

you can go to your routers2_bing.gif website and enter it manually. Type this might be it or try or

when it shows your routers2_bing.gif info write it down and then put it in your xbox's network by entering it manually. btw the secondary DNS is just if it doesn't give you two. the gateway2_bing.gif is just your routers ip address.

what else you can do is do port forwarding.
But the xbox is not a static ip address2_bing.gif so it'll change. what you can do is when it says to put your ip address in your xbox put all the numbers the same as the routers ip address BUT DON'T USE THE SAME LAST NUMBER! so like if your routers ip address is you can use i use but you may not have the 2 in yours.
a website that'll help
list of ports you have to open

any other ?'s email me at

Wr850g cant connect to xbox live

I posted a solution under a different problem, but similar. Basically you will need to pick a static IP for your xbox. Then set that IP address in the router web config >> routing >> DMZ IP address setting. Restart both router and xbox and bingo. Your xbox is now directly connected to your cable modem without the router problems preventing connectivity.

Xbox Live connection problem

In this regard, I would recommend you to forward certain port no’s on
the Router.

Port numbers: UDP- 88, TCP/UDP- 3074

It is in this context, I would suggest you to please try with the
following troubleshooting steps:

A) Assign static IP and DNS address to the XBOX.

1. Assign IP address as:; Subnet mask as:
and Default Gateway as:
2. Assign Primary DNS Address as: and Secondary DNS
Address as:

# Please Contact X-Box Technical Support to assign the Static IP
Address on Your X-Box.

C) Open the ports on the Router using the following steps:

1. Click on Port Forwarding under Advanced.
2. Click on ‘Port Forwarding’ on the left hand column on the screen.
3. On the bottom of the screen, click on ‘Add Custom Service’.
4. Give a name to the service (for example, XBOX1).
5. Select Service Type as UDP and key in the starting port and ending
port as 88.
6. In the Server IP Address specify
7. Hit ‘Apply’.
8. Click on 'Wan Setup' Under 'Advanced'.
9. Check the box 'DMZ Server'. Type in the IP Address
Click On 'Apply'.
10. Log Out of the Router Page.

Please repeat Steps 3 – 7 to configure the ports “UDP/TCP 3074”.

xbox configures the connection automatically as long as it is able to detect an internet connection(either wired or wireless). For wirless connections though, make sure xbox is using the correct security key or wep key for the wireless connection.

Linksys wrt54gs router and Xbox live

make sure that internet connection working fine first..if it is connect you xbox via wired or wireless(if wireless, make sure that you connect to your own wireless network and enter the wireless security if there is)...check if you can get an ip address, better set to obtain the ip address and dns of your xbox, if all set and still unable to access internet, access the linksys router setup page by typing on the address bar of your internet explorer, when pop-up for username and password type admin under password, leave it empty for the username. Click administration tab and disabled UPnP. Check if your X-BOX working fine. Hope this help you.

XBox 360 not compatible with Motorola WR850G

Motorola WR850G router may fail to connect to xbox live after update to firmware 6.1.4. I was able to correct the problem. My solution was
Go in xbox >> network config >> IP and use Static option. Set the xbox to an IP in the range allowed by your router configuration. The router IP config range is found in the router config web >> Lan section. Then I set my router config >> Routing >> DMZ IP Address setting to the xbox ip I just assigned to my xbox. Restart router using the restart button on the Basic page of router config. Restart your xbox and attempt to login to xbox live. This solved my problem.

As a side note, on the xbox networking test page, the xbox live status message will allows show they are aware of a problem with xbox live login. This is a lie. For that reason I postponed trying to fix my router problem thinking it was an xbox issue, it is not. Once you finally connect to xbox live you will still notice this incorrect message remains.
