Your problem, like many Dell printers is a simple one. You never installed the OCR Reader Application from the CD, that came with the printer.
You must use windows explorer to view the CD, you will see a folder that says OCR

Run that app, then you will be able to scan

Will not scan.printer says downloading application list.dont know if there is a problem with my computer or wireless network. have no idea what to try.any suggesions?

This is normal function and nothing to worry about.

There are two ways to initiate a scan using your machine.

You can use the keypad on the printer to tell it to scan and this makes the printer send the scan to the computer. Using this method lets the printer control the scan command.

To scan using the keypad - press the scan button on the printer. This will bring up the "downloading application list" on the printers display. What the printer is doing is looking for a list of installed programs/software on your pc that it is familiar with and can scan your document to. Your printer can use software like ,Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word or internet explorer ect. When it confirms a list of installed software available on your pc it will display them and wait for you to confirm where you want your scan to go. Word will only accept documents. I suggest scanning to a photo program for pictures. If your printer does not find any comptatible software that it can scan to on your pc then the downloading list notice will time out and it will display a scan error or just turn off and power down.

I suggest using the second method below to scan instead.

OR

You can use the software after its installed in your pc and go into the computer to tell it to scan using the printer and store the image in your pc instead. Using this method lets the computer control the scan command.

to use this method, you need to have the dell software for your printer model installed and click on it on your desktop. then just follow the prompts to find the scan command. If you dont have the software, its available on Dell's website. Go to customer support and find download software and drivers and enter your printer made and model number. Then follow the prompts to install the software on your pc and start your scan once more using the instructions above.

Hope this helps?

I am trying to get my dell v305w printer to scan and it keeps telling me downloading application list and then it says after 2 mins unable to download apps

The printer is trying to connect to your pc to download a list of programs to send the scanned document and/or picture to when you use your scanner.

The printer will only scan to certain software and there are separate choices for handling pictures and text documents.

When it tries to communicate with your pc to find software that it can scan to, its not finding any installed that will work with your printer. Its telling you that it is unable to get the list of applications after attempting to connect with your pc.

So, what does that mean?

It means that either "bi directional support" is not enabled in your printing preference so your printer is limited to sending info one way oly (to the computer). If this is the case you can go to your control panel and then choose printers and check the preferences listed there.

OR

You don't have applications installed in your pc that your printer can send scanned documents to.

If this is the case then you need to install software that your printer will work with and then set the options on your printer to pick the default you want to use with both pictures and text documents.

Printers usually accept microsoft word, word pad, microsoft works and any other word processing software to scan text documents to.

Printers usually accept just about any picture editing software installed on your pc to send scanned pictures to.

You can avoid all of the above by checking to make sure that your printers software is 100% installed including the scanning features. Go to the Dell website and update the drivers on your printer to make sure you have the full version that is most current.

The printer will always use its own program to scan both documents and text to regardless of the other software applications you might have installed on your pc.

I want to scan pictures to my computer from my dell v305 scanner

Put the printer cd back in the drive and install again. One of the choices is to install "Additional Software." Select that option. If you click the OCR option it will load everything you need. It needs to load the Dell Imaging Toolbox for your printer and computer to work together. I'm at a loss as to why this wasn't loaded automatically when the printer was installed. I missed it also the first time around. Good luck. dan

Printer/scanner won't scan

Install the printer again and select the "load additional software" option. Select the OCR software and it will load the Dell Imaging Toolbox. That should do it. The toolbox is really cool. It will allow you to save in various formats. Good luck...dan

Device monitor application problem

Make sure that the Lexmark Imaging Studio program is running. This was installed when you set up your printer.
If you see the multi-colored icon in your task bar for Lexmark Imaging Studio then try pressing the scan mode button twice. You should be able to scan then.
